Arthritis and steroids

I know there's an autoimmune board but doesn't get a lot of traffic.
Has anyone taken steroids long term for arthritis? I've just finished a 3 week course of prednisolone and it absolutely gave me my life back. I've been pain free for the first time in 3 years. But now they're all gone and the pain is back . Has anyone successfully been prescribed a long term dose for this?

Yes I do for RA/PsA, only 5 mg for about 20 months so far. I’m currently upping methotrexate, plus on max dose of sulfasalazine. Maybe when those kick in, ipred will come down.

@JoeMaplin have there been any side effects of being on them for so long? I'm on 25mg metoject and a ton of painkillers, but the steroids have been like a miracle cure. My GP and rheumatologist both seem very very against steroids other than for a short term solution when it's really bad.

I think that if you’re on them too long, your adrenal function can be compromised. I have to carry a steroid card. Also weight gain and puffy face. So I guess it’s a balancing act. I am just hoping at some point I will reach the magical combination that makes me feel better!!!
