Ideas on how to spend a month off

CuriousityMe · 30/06/2022 13:46

I went away for a week in Portugal earlier in the year so I'm not bothered about going abroad again this year or travelling too far at all really. However, I will have a month off and would like ideas on how to spend my time. I'm just about getting over a breakup as well so want to make the most of my days and not be moping. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Exercise daily - walk or yoga. If time off is in the summer get up at dawn and spend time outside.

I would do something productive to change your immediate environment. So maybe redo your bedroom and living room?, then perhaps have a couple of days away somewhere different to your normal destinations and then sometime chilling at home and exploring places on your doorstep/meeting up with friends etc. and plan some new on going activities to replace that lost relationship time in the evenings/weekends. Bonus point if it’s something where you get to meet new people - eg team sport/gym/club.

Thanks for suggestions. I used to be a real bookworm but haven't been able to concentrate on reading for a long while, so want to get back to that also. I go through phases of wanting/ not wanting to travel, so I'm in my not wanting to phase at the moment, but want to enjoy my time off at the same time.

I would divide into:

  • something physical (eg. Hiking, running, wild water swimming, course of tango, you name it)
  • something cultural (reading, art galleries, exhibition, shows, language course, etc)
  • something creative ( writing, painting, etc)
-and possibly something involving catching up with long lost friends. I think that depends on people's personalities though!

Oh and I'd force myself to get off screens!

Yoga with Adrienne 30 day yoga programme.

A renovation project on your home if you own it

Make a list of all the touristy things in your area that you’d like to see, restaurants you want to go to, movies and theatre you’d like to see that are on and work your way through it.

If you don’t want a long trip, are there any weekends or one night trips you’d like to do to visit family or friends??

Following as I am in the same predicament.
Just getting over covid so don’t have the energy to travel, but equally don’t want to waste all the free time.
I like the idea of learning a language.
OP, may I please suggest flower arranging, you can connect to a local group so meet new people. You will also learn about design, colour and other cultures and always e able to rustle up a unique and beautiful gift.
Further down the road when you wish to travel there are holidays linked to flowers. Bloemencorso anyone? Xx

Yes, off the screens is something I need to do!

There is an app called Meetup There is loads of fun local activities you can look at, a lot of them are free.

can you make a list of things in your local area or other close by cities/towns, such as

botanic gardens
Forrest walks
museums
some nice attractions you would like to see
maybe pick a few movies you would like to see at the cinema

and then when you are stuck for ideas you can pick one of them and try and make a day of it.

Which all sounds really impressive. Of course in the real world we'd all add "binge watch xxxx box set". A perfectly legitimate choice.
