Sick of my greasy hair

Looking for recommendations flor a shampoo/conditioner that will work. I washed my hair last night, dried it. Woke up this morning and it’s greasy as anything. It’s like that all the time. I spend a fortune on dry shampoo.

Do you double shampoo? Also you really need to scrub your scalp. I am using Joico Joifull Volumizing Shampoo at the moment and am finding it very good. A little goes a long way.

@purplecorkheart No just once then conditioner. I used to put the conditioner all over, then somebody told me to just use it on the ends but that still hasn’t worked.

Double shampooing really made a difference to me. Keep the conditioner to the mid part and ends of you hair. Never near roots. Really rub your scalp when shampooing.

Do you sweat at night? DD has greasy hair if she washes it before bed and it's always greasy at the roots because she sweats a lot. Same as me, I need a shower and washing my hair in the morning.

The only shampoo which also works for her is this from Dove, we went through a lot of average brands and this is now in use for 2 years:

I switched to a "no waste path" solid shampoo and conditioner bar and it's made a huge difference. £8 a bar but it lasts ages, saves water (only one rinse) and hair is soft and feels clean for 2/3 days.

Are you washing your hair in hot water?
if so turn the shower down-you need cool water
dont wash it in the bath and double shampoo-the first time it will lather-the second it will really lather
conditioner on the ends and wash bedding regularly
all these really helped with my oil slick hair

If you have greasy hair then wash it twice with shampoo making sure you rinse it properly. Only apply conditioner to the ends and rinse it well and then rinse again with cold water

My hair gets greasy easy and the best one I've found is the ogx apple and vinegar shampoo

Cocowatermelon · 30/06/2022 15:04

Condition the ends first, rinse, then shampoo the roots throughly and rinse it all out well.

I reduced my hair washing to twice a week and it made the world of difference. Took a few weeks to get there but now I can easily go a week before my hair starts to look greasy.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 30/06/2022 19:17

I think washing only once maybe the reason for greasy hair. I've read it somewhere looooong ago, and has been doing this since. First thoroughly wet the hair, then wash concentrating on your scalp, rinse, then wash again thoroughly.

This used to be me, I would swear to anyone that I just HAD to wash it every day. Then I ditched products with silicone for other reasons and can now go two days without dry shampoo and sometimes a third if I use it (although I try not to as it has silicone in). I double wash and condition ends only. My shampoo contains sulfates as you need these for a thorough clean. I use Faith in Nature Lavendar and Geranium, you can buy it at Sainsburys, Boots and Amazon.

The reason I ditched silicone was because I constantly had baby hair around my hairline and a halo of fluff on my crown that just seemed to constantly be falling out and re-growing. I thought it was hormonal but my hairdresser said it was probably due to a build up of silicone and likened it to 'trying to grow grass through a bin bag' Shock

I realised after a while that mine was getting greasy because my hair brush wasn't clean! I've started being strict with washing them with shampoo every few weeks

Same here, and it was so difficult at the start but after a few weeks the difference was huge (I’ve always washed twice btw so definitely try that too!)

lady725516 · 30/06/2022 20:45

I used to wash mine daily.

I've switched to olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Wash twice, condition the ends and I do this twice a week now. My hair has never looked or felt healthier. I also wear it in a bun at night. I hardly ever use dry shampoo anymore.

The only things that have worked for my teen dd are Elvive (I think it’s called clay something in a light green bottle) for oily hair and also a shampoo bar from Amazon, also for greasy/oily hair.
