Burglar alarm went off

We don't use the burglar alarm.
It was here before we moved in.
It just went off in the middle of the night! I couldn't even hear it so I it really reinforced how deaf I am. My child woke up from it and woke me up

It was so stressful I don't know the code as I don't use it.

Eventually it stopped going off.

Why would it go off like this?? Is it likely to happen again?

How odd. That has just happened to me as well. Again not used for ages and needed to find the code. May have woken others in my block of flats - about 4.30

I used to live in a rented flat where we didn't have the code for the very old alarm system. There were a couple of occasions when it was set off due to a power cut. It happened during the night, scared the living daylights out of me and then had to wait 15 minutes for it to switch itself off.

Probably a power cut.

purpleme12 · 30/06/2022 05:52

Yes I didn't have the code
Was so panicking!

I would have completely slept through it if my child hadn't been there though!!

It's probably been set off with a power surge or power cut.

If it's not an alarm you use it's probably worth getting it disconnected properly.

My house alarm doesn't wake me up, it's gone off a couple of times and I sleep through it. Slightly concerning because I live alone

Ah ok I've never had a burglar alarm before so not had this.

It's made me realise I'd have no clue if something happened in the night either way

This happened in my old house during a power cut - power went back on but I couldn't shut the wretched thing off. Ended up flipping a switch on the circuit breaker which shut it up but then got an alarm engineer out asap.

My child didn't know that it was at first, said she thought it was a videogame and I was downstairs and so she went downstairs to find me!
Good job no one was breaking in!

They usually go off if you have a power cut and the back up battery has died.

We did once have a fault on our alarm where it randomly went off when it wasn't set. The engineer said it was a faulty sensor (it always showed the same sensor as the trigger point) and replaced it. The same thing happened again. Turns out it was a fault with the wiring in the loft.

They can also go off if someone tampers with a sensor (as our poor decorator found out once when he was stripping wallpaper).

We've had mini power cuts the last three nights, alarms going off from the industrial estate locally.
If your alarm hasn't been set for ages try 0000/4444/6666 it may have reset to factory code.

Thank you 👍

Back up battery might be low. Ours went off while away even though it was not set. The battery had drained due to a series of powercuts.
