Anyone have experience of Nijmegen?

My DC is going to do the 4 day 100 mile Nijmegen March on 19th July. He is really looking forward to it - I think. It’s not something I’d ever think of doing and he’s the only one of our DCs who thrives on this stuff (he’s only 13)

he’s obviously been on quite a few training marches with his team and managed ok. Has made some friends in his group.

tell me how fantastic it is??

My son did it when he was 14. I’d call it a fantastic achievement, however the march itself I’d describe as a painful test of endurance, mental & physical fitness, and coping with having VERY manky/wrecked feet.

Good experience that length of walk... unless you want to stay attached to your big toenails. But who needs them!!!

Good luck for your DS, OP.

I associated Nijmegen with Vincent Van Gogh, the pain he suffered was of a different kind, not from walking.

Yes! DS did it when he was 15/16, and is still very proud to have finished all four days.
It is gruelling though - very early starts, sore feet and utter exhaustion.
He needs to eat well, keep hydrated and attend to 'hot spots' before they blister.
Worth it for the gladioli!

Ah thanks!

I did it in 1988. To this day, one of the best experiences of my life. He will love it. Marching in at the end of the day is amazing. The parade at the end of the four days fabulous. Some good videos on YouTube.
