Commentator bias - Williams v Tan

I really like watching Wimbledon and it's great to see Serena Williams playing again, however it's so unfair for the commentators to spend the whole time gushing over her. The woman she is playing against, Harmony Tan, is absolutely ace and holding up really well. Shame she's barely getting a mention, even though she's won the first set. Every time Tan wins something, they somehow manage to compliment Serena!

I agree, it’s annoying! Harmony is playing an absolute cracker.

She is fabulous so far! But somehow every little win is commented on with a patronising statement such as "She is giving Serena a little healthy competition" but basically with the tone that they very much expect Serena to win!

Most tennis commentary is woeful to be honest

Oh God I nearly joined twitter to tweet the beeb to ask Todd Woodbridge to STFU during his NON-STOP commentary on the Jubb/Krygios match.

I agree - BBC commentary is very biased towards certain players and is usually done by white, middle aged men who don’t seem to have much of a clue about current tennis players - yet the BBC insists in employing them every year!

Williams is a legend, but.........she has become 'entitled' in the way she deals with ball boys, officials, etc.

C'mon Tan, dig deep. We're all behind you.

I like Serena a lot but I do agree about the commentators. A moment ago they said they hoped to see serena play many more games in the tournament!

Wow that was such a match. Well deserved and hopefully the start of an epic Wimbledon journey for her.

It was SO frustrating. At the beginning of the match, Harmony might as well have not have been on the court. Chuffed she won - puts the commentators in their place!

The BBC commentators do this every single year. Even when Serena is losing, her opponent barely gets a mention, no matter how good their game.

And they're still waffling on about Williams. I've shouted fuck off at the TV far too much tonight

Complain - I complained to the BBC about the commentary at queens tournament - I’m not sure if it made any difference but if more people complain hopefully they will have to listen at some point
