Just musings really, today I heard Everything But the Girl on the radio. I'm of the generation that probably heard Missing much too much because it was everywhere for a while, but I was reflecting that 'and I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain', is a belting lyric that maybe you need to have lived/loved/lost a bit to really appreciate. Or at least more than I did in my teens!
Anyone got any other pop lyrics that have struck you by their wisdom years later?

Hear You Me-Jimmy Eat World.

"What would you think of me now,
So lucky, so strong so proud,
I never said thank you for that,
Now I'll never have a chance,

May angels lead you in,
Hear you me my friends,
On sleepless roads, the sleepless go,
May angels lead you in."

@SisterAgatha I love Diamonds and Rust.

Also love Martha by Tom Waits but not sure if it fits pop song thread intention.

I remember listening to the Beatles Follow the Sun a couple of years ago and being caught out with a full on cry.

More than this by Roxy music

Such an ambiguous song, it could be about acceptance that it’s as good as it gets and being satisfied and content with your relationship /life. Or it could be about accepting the end of something and moving on. The music adds meaning to the simple lyrics and it’s a very emotional song about the universal human experience and it’s limitations

I loved 74-75 by The Connells years ago, but recently revisited it. I sobbed over the video, it made me think of happier times for me before my life went off on a tangent I never wanted.

The Lyrics to This is Me from The Greatest Showman

Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in

We are bursting through the barricades and
Reaching for the sun (we are warriors)
Yeah, that's what we've become (yeah, that's what we've become)

I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious

Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Especially the video on YouTube of the practice before they recorded. Keala Settle has an incredible voice.

The song by Beyoncé and Naughty Boy runnin' it was playing on the radio in the car, on our way home from finding out our baby had no heartbeat.

"These four lonely walls have changed the way I feel
The way I feel
I'm standing still
And nothing else matters now, you're not here
So where are you?
I've been callin' you
I'm missin' you"

Ohhh I used to love this!!

Reminds me of being 16, just finished my GCSE, a long hot summer ahead of me, with first love boyfriend. We went to the beach, had picnics, went on holiday with his family. So much fun, no responsibility 😍
