How much pain is normal after replacement filling?

Have been suffering with some tooth pain for a few days, throbbing but mainly goes with ibuprofen so only really hurts which the meds wear off. Had a dentist appointment yesterday and he said the cause was a loose filling which he replaced (with a temporary filling). It was sore yesterday when the anaesthetic wore off which I expected but it's been rather sore today too - worse than the original pain because ibuprofen alone isn't enough at the moment. Normal?

I always have some pain for a couple of days. I think the drilling and re-filling jiggles the nerve a bit.

That's reassuring thanks; I suddenly realised this morning that the dentist hadn't looked properly at the other teeth, hadn't x-rayed or anything so what if it wasn't just the loose filling causing the pain? But hopefully it will ease off over the next few days and if not I will have to go back.
