Sorry, I not really sure where to post this. MnHQ feel free to move this!
Husband and I are both from Northern Ireland and live in Italy. We have dual nationality and are entitled to UK and Irish passports. We all have both (well DH's British one has expired but he is definitely entitled to one).
We had a baby here in Italy a few months ago and I applied for her Irish passport in April. Long story short, it looks like it won't be ready before our flights in July.
Last night I managed to get an appointment for next week at the passport office in Belfast for the 1 week British passport, which our baby is also entitled to. My dad picked up the form from the post office this morning. My husband will fly in the day before the appointment, fill in the form and an old family friend will sign it off. DH will attend the appointment.
Baby is entitled to a UK passport without a doubt. However I'm worried we can't go about getting the passport like because we live abroad. I like things to be above board but as far as I am aware, the baby is entitled to the passport and we are paying the fee like everyone else. Is it a problem that we live abroad?
DH and I both have UK birth certs and baby has her Italian one plus a certified translation into English. Is there anything I need to be aware of before my husband commences this epic journey?
Also, am I correct in thinking that the baby's photos don't have to be signed (just working out the logistics).
Basically, is this above board? If not then we won't do it.
Has anyone done this? Was it OK? Did they post it to your foreign address? We can work something out if not
Thanks!
