Has the flight chaos put you off?

Just that really. A couple of friends have hard a horrendous time with flight cancellations and a friend is has currently sitting on a runway for three hours waiting for people to get through queues!
Have decided to give going abroad a miss and going to stay in the UK. I know the weather will be shit but I can't face the potential stress. Might be a breeze and go perfectly well but does not make it a fun run up to a holiday knowing I might be queuing or having flights cancelled or affected by strikes.
Has the current travel madness put you off?

Yes I have been eager to book a holiday abroad since the initial lock down ,m it the uncertainty around travel is just too much stress to make it worth if for me . So we’ve opted for a couple of UK weekend breaks and a no-fly cruise over Christmas.

I am not a keen flyer anyway and the thought of airports and airlines being understaffed in many departments adds to my anxiety that aircraft maintenance etc may not be quiet as thorough as it should be . The recent headlines about the Tui flights experiencing in air emergencies from Manchester has further worried me.

I flew back from Europe last week (BA) - such long delays I didn't get home til 3.30am. Nightmare.

LondonWolf · 27/06/2022 20:15

Yes. We won't go away this year now. We went to Spain in February and the two hour wait to get through border control on entry and then again on leaving - to the point that we almost missed our flight - was bad enough. Can't imagine how much worse it is now during peak travel times.

gjtage · 27/06/2022 20:16

yes, booked UK instead

whoruntheworldgirls · 27/06/2022 20:17

Nope I'm booked with Jet2 for August, can't wait!

Lochjeda · 27/06/2022 20:17

Nope I'm flying from Manchester tomorrow with Ryanair. Only thing I have done differently is booked us all a 10kg case for the cabin instead of checking in bags due to the queues and lost luggage issues and baggage handler strikes.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 27/06/2022 20:18

Yes, we're holidaying in South Wales this August. Actually really looking forward to it!

I live overseas, and my OH has been back and forth to U.K. due to his elderly dad. Flying from Gatwick today with my youngest daughter out from Uni. Two hours late leaving, but only 50 minutes late arriving. He will have to fly back to the U.K. in about ten days. It is what it is. Thank god all the massively overpriced U.K. covid testing has gone.

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 27/06/2022 20:25

Yes.

We we’re waiting to get passports back before booking, then with the chaos we decided to give it a miss for another year.

dubyalass · 27/06/2022 20:27

Another one staying put, at least till later on this year after the school holidays. I may yet get the ferry to France but my nearest airport with more than two destinations is Bristol and it's tedious there at the best of times.

Ohbuggeritsme · 27/06/2022 20:31

Not at all, went to Italy over Easter hols, no issues at all. Sister flew to Cyprus y'day no problem, friends flew to Spain today, again no issues I know of at least 3 other families who have flown to various areas today, again without any problems.

I think we are hearing all the horror stories rather than the thousands of people on flights who haven't had any problems.

I'm in no way saying that there aren't any problems at airports at the moment, but it's not literally every single flight that leaves the country x

Ohbuggeritsme · 27/06/2022 20:33

@CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory I live in South Wales. Some beautiful areas around to visit and holiday. West Wales is pretty amazing also

NewNamePrivacyneeded · 27/06/2022 20:33

Yes, seeing those bags thrown all over the floor at Heathrow and queues outside before the queues inside - why bother. It's no fun.

userxx · 27/06/2022 20:34

I'm thinking the daily mail don't want anyone to go abroad this year.

chiffchaffchiff · 27/06/2022 20:34

No but I arrived at Luton airport 3.5 hours before a European flight expecting the worst. Got through security in 10 minutes and then had to figure out how to fill the other 3 hours 🤣

How do you know for sure the weather? Where are you going and when?

Places like Greece are unlikely to piss it down for the entire week on a scale on probability I'll take Greece or Spain! Over UK.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 27/06/2022 20:45

Yes but I actually vowed a few years ago never to fly again as it is so much hassle. I think the final straw was having to take your shoes off.

We now go on cruises.
