I’ve wanted to visit Northumberland for ages and have booked a lovely b n b for Oct half term. But...assuming the weather will be cold and wet, is this a bad idea?! We would want to visit castles, beaches, general mooch around but are there enough indoor things to do in case of crap weather (with chn aged 9 and 7)?

im desperate to visit but it’s a long way (6 hour minimum drive) and I’m wondering whether to try and do in warmer months (although obv British weather is totally erratic)

what do you think?

We’ve been at October half term, it was fine. Take your big coat!

I would go but wrap up warm

Yes, it will be fine. Wellies and raincoats for the beach - and also swimwear and sun hats because you never know.

You can mooch from castle to tea shop to castle all week.

We've been in October, June and February. October and Feb both very cold, you will need a big coat and boots etc. But we did all walks and castles and beaches. June was glorious weather and again we did walks, castles, sunbathing on the beach. My preference is for June but my preference is always for hot weather!

We had a weekend near Bamburgh (but inland) in early Oct last year and had quite a lot of sunshine, but - torrential rain on arrival after dark, which wasn’t fun on an unlit caravan park!

It is a lovely area though.

Really you take your chances anywhere in the UK at any time. We had a week in Dartmouth this May; it was very cool and rained at some point every day. Previously we’ve had great weather there in May 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks all! We’ll prob go for it. Just expensive and then I think of the cold/wet...! If we’re prepared I think we’ll be fine.
