I think he thinks it makes him relatable and affable and is a point of differentiation.

Because his usp is bedraggled, muddled rogue. It allows him to get away with all sorts of shitty behaviour and play on the poor little boy who can't even brush his hair persona. When in reality he's a calculated, abhorrent human being who fully understands his actions but doesn't care.

Absolutely this.

I’m not that interested in hair. Putin and Hitler had very smart haircuts and no doubt could pick a pair of trousers that fit impeccably and yet both are genocidal psychopaths.

I quite enjoy his energy. He seems to have little regard for stuffy yes men and I rather enjoy that too.

Energy?!

He's not a rebel in any way shape or form. He's as Establishment as they come.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/06/2022 10:43

Very carefully cultivated. Sort of permanent dead cat on the table. Distract, distract, distract.

unfortunately, it seems to work on a lot of people 🙄

Except he's just a scruffy yes man.

He can't even fire his useless staff.

He's weak, needs to be liked and couldn't lead boiled water out of a kettle.

ApplesandBunions · 27/06/2022 10:48

Because it's his deliberately chosen image, and because he can. Nobody female, not white or not exceptionally posh would be able to get away with it. Imagine if Rishi Sunak looked that way, or Keir Starmer, or Theresa May. They wouldn't dare.

3peassuit · 27/06/2022 10:48

It’s a carefully studied and well rehearsed mess. I think the public are over it now.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 27/06/2022 10:53

Fantail · 27/06/2022 07:08

There’s absolutely no way he’d get away with looking like that if he was a woman.

or working class.

only posh boys get away with the tousled tosser look. people let the posh boys do whatever they want,.

Remember the notorious donkey jacket? (Except it wasn’t, it was a very expensive something or other coat)? The Tories totally weaponised it.

This is such an odd thing to say and totally contrary to the facts. He surrounds himself with yes men and women; not very bright oddballs who go along with what he says (for the time being) And he himself is a yes man. He says yes to whatever it takes for people to carry on supporting him without regard to facts or morality. He is not a non nonsense anti-establishment type in the slightest. The upper classes are stuffed full of buffoons like him.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 27/06/2022 10:59

There was a clip on Twitter yesterday of him out for an exhilarating run.

Gets out of his chauffeur driven car and 'jogs' ten feet for the paps, into a hotel.

I always wonder who actually agrees to cut his hair like that? What does he ask for when he goes into the barbers? Or does he do it himself?

I was wondering the exact same thing yesterday evening.

I do indeed, and Michael Foot came from a pretty solid middle class background too. We really are talking Etonian level to be able to get away with such a non standard mode of professional dress.

Everything that Johnson does is a calculated performance.
Jeremy Vine has a fascinating story about his behaviour.
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.spectator.co.uk/article/my-boris-johnson-story/amp

That is really interesting. And not how I expected the article to end.

SpookyButTrue · 27/06/2022 11:49

He is on the outside what he is on the inside = a mess.

ChicCroissant · 27/06/2022 12:00

I think it's deliberate and attention-seeking - it gets commented on a lot, and he does stand out (not in a good way IMO) at photocalls with other world leaders.

Colonel Mustard in the billiard room with a dagger.

CalistoNoSolo · 27/06/2022 13:10

He would look like an out of place twat even without CWS's treatment. Macron on the other hand... oh my days 😍

BruisedSkies · 27/06/2022 14:18

Lol fusspot. Your name sounds like a cluedo character.

I would be happy for Mr Johnson to be as scruffy as he liked if he resigns.

The point about how men brought up in modest circumstances and indeed all women would be judged if similarly messy is well made.

Rockbird · 27/06/2022 19:39

Because he's an absolute twat that's why.

Marlaah · 27/06/2022 19:52

Maybe he’s going for this image? Scruffy, unthreatening, cuddly…bit contrived.

Why does our PM always look such a mess??
Drunkandalone · 27/06/2022 19:59

he is the hardest working man in the country... and you’re judging him on how he looks? You might have the spare time to make sure each hair is in its place, but when you’re running a country it’s not that simple.
