Remembering the TV programmes when I was young during school holidays which included Why don't you? The littlest hobo and the monkees any other?

Can remember a lot of these - Why don't you?, Gentle Ben, He-man - but not specifically watching them in summer holidays. I do remember they used to put on children's drama series in the holidays, there was one I really liked called 'Golden Pennies' about settlers in Australia. Had totally forgotten about it until this thread, but can still remember the theme tune.

Ahh, this is bringing back happy memories of me and all my siblings watching this stuff! Yes I remember the chess show too. The presenter was on Gogglebox with his partner for a while.

FatOaf · 26/06/2022 23:58

Others have mentioned The Banana Splits, White Horses, Robinson Crusoe and Champion the Wonder Horse. How about Casey Jones (steamin' and a-rollin'), The Lone Ranger, Hergé's Adventures of Tintin, ... ?

CountryManor · 27/06/2022 00:12

Wait Til Your Father Gets Home was hilarious!

x2boys · 27/06/2022 06:53

Not specifically in the summer holidays ,but when neighbours was first broadcast in the UK they only showed it in the morning and at lunchtime ,so people could only watch it in the holidays unless they were lucky and their parents had a VCR ,which my mum and dad didn't have 😪
They had to change the times to early evening by popular demand I think 🤣

Igmum · 27/06/2022 07:08

Yes to Casey Jones! And what about Zorro? (Out of the night, when the moon is bright)

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 27/06/2022 07:52

Neighbours and The Sullivans always reminds me of school holidays too as they were both on at lunchtime. Then it was Pebble Mill at 1 and it was time to get dressed and go and knock for friends to come out and play, always outside unless it was raining when we had to beg someone's mum to let us play indoors.

One friend always had a freezer full of ice pops so they were popular.

Running home for money when we heard the ice cream van.

Everyone had bikes and we were pretty good with repairs and punctures etc. We used to go down the hill with 2 or 3 kids on one bike. God knows how we survived.

Usually someone's mum needed shopping so we all went off to the shop with the list. Sometimes we could get a mix up with the change.

The days seemed endless.

Such brilliant simple times and a shame you don't really appreciate them at the time. Being a 70's/80's child was brilliant. I'd love to go back for a day.

Same here telly in the morning and then out to play, loved it when my mum had saved a fairy liquid bottle to use as a water gun ahhhh good memories
