They both seem beautiful and expensive!
Any recommendations for a family with pre teens?

Copenhagen

I’ve done both. Stockholm.

If you go to Copenhagen you can take the train to Backen which is a great fairground. You can also take the train across the bridge and visit Malmö. I'm partial to the south of Sweden and Denmark though as it's where I grew up.

Copenhagen. Such an amazing city. Fabulous mix of regal, old buildings and gorgeous modern architecture. Visit the Experimentarium. Get a train to Helsingor and Hamlet’s castle. Cross the Bridge to Sweden.

Neither go to Gothenburg instead.

Copenhagen has an amazing science museum, we spent hours in there last month with my DC (9&11)

Gothenburg is a great suggestion, lots of family friendly things to do and such a beautiful city. The trams are great for getting around on.

Been to both - Stockholm is the winner for me. The Abba museum is fab.

Everyone who loved Stockholm , please tell me about as a weekend break ( no children )
I’ve been to Copenhagen but never considered Stockholm , thanks

I have been to and loved both (as well as Gothenburg and Mälmo!) but have returned to Copenhagen again and again, it's my favourite city.

Definitely rent bikes and ride out to Reffen, go swimming on the way if you're going in summer. Take the train to Louisiana. Tivoli is lovely at night. Great museums.
