How long is a child's first passport taking?

Been offered a holiday mid August but DD doesn't have a passport.

Is it worth trying?

I’d heard it’d got quicker recently but not sure how quick

Applied for DS' on the 22nd May. Got it signed the same day. Sent birth certificate the same week (You have to wait to see where they ask you to send it to and I think the time frames vary by where it gets sent to). 2 weeks later they said they received his certificate. Wednesday this week it was approved and printed today. Hoping to receive it next week. So 4/5 weeks.
Can't relax until it's in my hands.

Ours arrived 2 days ago having taken 6-7 weeks

DrFoxtrot · 25/06/2022 20:32

You'll probably be fine - newer applications seem to be getting done quickly within 4-5 weeks while those from April and earlier are still in a backlog black hole...

BertieBotts · 25/06/2022 20:33

Sent application off on 2nd June and they have only just said they received documents on the 22nd.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 25/06/2022 20:35

Not a child’s first but from me completing online and sending old in, then passport ready for printing has been 8 days including weekend. Expecting it to be printed and sent next week hopefully which will be two weeks.

Still seems very different for people.

Tee20x · 25/06/2022 20:41

Mine took about 4-5 weeks to arrive & documents came back a few weeks after

SoHauntingEverytime · 25/06/2022 20:44

It's actually 25th Aug,

So have 8 weeks if I apply tomorrow.

Would you risk it?

I would risk it depending on what you have to lose. You say offered - is it with family, friends? Will you be paying full price? What happens if you can't make it?

I applied for 2 first child passports on 17th May and had their IDs confirmed same day.

Sent birth certificates in on 18th May.
Received on 26th May.

Both passports arrived this last week, one on the 20th June, the other on the 21st.

I've been pleasantly surprised after reading all the horror stories of delays of months and months.

I'm still waiting on the birth certificates back though.

This is promising. We applied 27th May so hopefully it'll be approved next week if yours is anything to go by. 🤞

We applied on the 11 May and received it on Friday, so 6.5 weeks from start to finish. It went via Peterborough I believe.

HereLiveIAmNotACat · 28/06/2022 07:11

I applied 3 May, sent documents 5 May (next day tracked), didn’t say received until 1 June and nothing has happened since then. Meant to be travelling 19 July which they are aware of.

if you’re going to try definitely use the fast track service.
