After several years of using inflatable kayaks, I’m hoping to purchase 3 sit on solid kayaks. I travel independently quite a lot with 2 pre-teen children so have concerns about how easy they are to transport on top of an XC-90. Ideally I would look for 3 kayaks that could stack on top of each other on the roof rails. Given that I’m only 5’3” I was hoping for kayaks that were under 20kg? It’s a given I’ll need a step ladder/ stool to put them on top of the car but ideally the weight would need to be low enough to lift them myself.
Ideally we’d go for three singles rather than a single and a double for flexibility and longevity. Both children are very outdoorsy and sail and canoe regularly so not worried about handling of the kayaks in the sheltered rivers/ coves where we normally kayak.
Any advise and dos/ don’ts very gratefully received!
