Roe v Wade: US Supreme Court ends constitutional right to abortion www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-61928898

This is utterly hideous. Gilead is alive & well in the good ol' US of A. 😢

Yes absolutely. You can’t abort an unwanted pregnancy even if you’ve been raped but if your child goes to school and is shot dead that’s okay because gun ownership is in the constitution.

I fear for women all around the world.

It's terrifying, I despair - talk about a HUGE leap backwards. And all it will do is mean that women will seek an abortion by any means. I worry that the USA will head towards some sort of civil war in the future, it seems so polarised. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a woman living there - as PP mentions, literally heading towards being like the Handmaid's Tale!

The USA can fuck off with their stupid anti woman laws. Honestly, it prides itself being one of the world’s richest countries and their laws are so backwards. Employment law, maternity law, gun laws. They can get stuffed as far as I’m concerned.
It's a very sad day for us women indeed.

Land of the free...
Although one aspect of this (inevitable) decision is perhaps surprising - it could weaken the chances of the Republicans coming back to power.
This is a key issue for a lot of voters who are not 'natural' Republicans but will vote for them on the vague promise of this decision being repealed. Now this decision has happened, the Republicans have lost the leverage it offered.
Many states will still legislate to allow abortion. Although it probably will be harder to obtain in some places.

Stuff is supposed to get better over time both in physical stuff like cars etc but also in attitudes like same sex marriage etc. It's basically called progress.

In addition to taking away a very hard won and important women's right that has existed for 50 years, what deeply worries me is that we now seem to be going backwards with stuff getting worse over time and not just in the US.
