How often do you wash your walls?

I woke early today. I popped into the bathroom (north north east facing) and the sun was coming in the window at an angle. We don't usually see sun in that room as its gone around by the time we get up.

We have a fully tiled bathroom right up to the ceiling and the sun was hitting it and I could see the tiles were liberally covered in dust. I've never noticed it before, obviously because I dont usually see the sun up there and only have one light in the centre pointing down. The room was done around 4 years ago and I don't think the tiles up towards the ceiling have ever been wiped since. So I've been up the step ladder cleaning them today and feel slightly less minging.

I'm now looking around my house thinking all the walls must be due a good clean. Apart from when we paint or if there's a mark, they never get cleaned.

So, do you routinely wash your walls? 🤔

About once a decade - I have adhd and I need to have a good long think before getting around to anything.

Ditto 😄

I scrub the bathroom (wet room so fully tiled) from time to time, as high as I can reach. The walls further away from the shower don't really need it but near the shower they do and I might as well do all at once. I don't clean any other walls though unless I notice obvious marks or dirt.

dropthevipers · 22/06/2022 18:53

As often as I wash the roof

mewkins · 22/06/2022 18:56

Only when I notice the tiles look grubby. Generally after summer as the windows have been open more.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/06/2022 19:00

I only wash visibly dirty bits. There are several places where the dog lies and behind the kitchen bin etc. other than that I don't wash walls.

livelyliz · 22/06/2022 19:02

Dust when I paint, other than that life is too short to wash walls.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 22/06/2022 19:42

I have never washed a wall in my life other than the odd patch where the dog has brushed against it.
I do wash the tiles in the shower over the bath regularly because of limescale and soap scum.

DotBall · 22/06/2022 19:51

Fully tiled bathroom and en-suite both get done once a year (apart from the bits down the side of the toilet that DH and DS swear blind is neither of their piss-stains - these get done every week).

Topseyt123 · 22/06/2022 21:26

Almost never.

DontKeepTheFaith · 22/06/2022 21:31

Never washed walls! Ever…..only just starting to repaint now, the walls have been the same colour in some rooms since we moved in….in 2003🤣🤣

Our bathroom is small and tiny window. A shower leaves the walls dripping wet with steam. Even if left door open too. So after everyone's finished in the evening one of us does a quick spray with cleaner (tiked floor to ceiling) and use squeegee to go roind and get rid of the wetness. If not done the bathroom smells damp for ages.
But if not prob would do every couple weeks like i did in old house

Mum2jenny · 22/06/2022 21:34

Never, have never ever even considered washing a wall. Why would you?

Curlygirl06 · 22/06/2022 21:48

Is it all over or just in a line at the bottom?
I live in a hard water area and every time we have a shower we squeegee the water off and that's kept the main bit of screen clear of lime scale but I do clean it properly once a week. We get a line of limescale at the bottom and I scrub that gently with a brillo pad once a week, it doesn't scratch the glass.

tiredanddangerous · 22/06/2022 21:50

i can honestly say that i have never in all my 43 years washed a wall

Curlygirl06 · 22/06/2022 21:57

Sally090807 · 22/06/2022 16:41

Any tips on how to clean a shower screen. I live in a hard water area and nothing works, I’ve tried everything.

Reply up above ^^, quote didn't work.

I can't believe you're all so slovenly! I wash mine in a 60 degree cycle every day. You can't be too careful with wall cooties.

I did this, but I foolishly put some knickers in the machine with the wall, and now I'm dead, due to catching bubonic arse disease.

AnnieSnap · 22/06/2022 22:43

I’m amazed to read that some posters do this regularly 😯 I would only do it if I noticed some dirt. Even then, I might forget for a while😳

AnnieSnap · 22/06/2022 22:45

dropthevipers · 22/06/2022 18:53

As often as I wash the roof

😂🤣😂🤣 brilliant!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 22/06/2022 22:47

@AnnieSnap habits from work! I expect other people also have hangover habits from their job - secretaries taking messages with shorthand? Chefs liking a kitchen and prep done a certain way? Hgv drivers being utterly unable to drive small cars? (Maybe the last one is just my Dh!)

Those washing walls in machines with their smalls - please make sure you use a colour catcher 🤣

AnnieSnap · 22/06/2022 23:03

@Alphabet1spaghetti2 fair point. I think I’d like you to be my cleaner.

Pickingmyselfup · 22/06/2022 23:15

All of them never but I would say I probably wipe a grubby bit off somewhere at least once a month. Cream walls and small kids don't go well but that's why I buy washable paint and redo the communal areas every couple of years.

The bath and shower walls around the bath and shower get done when I clean the bathrooms but only as far as I can reach.

I don't have the inclination to do any more than that and would only have the time if all I did was clean, sleep and eat. Doesn't sound appealing.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 22/06/2022 23:15

@AnnieSnap 👍😀

Doyoumind · 22/06/2022 23:23

Twice a day.
