Uber to a beach from Birmingham

What roughly would the price be, and what would the most suitable beaches be where one can have a drink and watch the sea ?

It's for my travel journal of random trips , yes I was inspired from an earlier thread, but as per mumsnet guidelines, I needed a separate line of discussions, to make it different from previous threads.

Is there still the beach under spaghetti junction? Or was it outside the bullring? (Or both?)

Hawkins001 · 22/06/2022 01:17

Not sure I'll have to research that one.

There is a ‘beach’ area at edgbaston reservoir,

there used to be a beach at heart country park in fillongly not sure if ita still there,

or for proper beaches

head up to talacre beach north Wales or Llandudno (don’t get an Uber there there is a train from Birmingham)

also Aberystwyth isn’t to bad and you can a stop on the way as the place that has the red kites.

or down towards Weston and layde bay would be the other advise

The beach at Fillongley was closed years ago as the owner didn't have planning permission.

North Wales.

ABout £150

Plmoknijbuhv · 22/06/2022 04:12

There is hourly direct trains from Birmingham to Bournemouth that takes about 2.5 hours. Birmingham is so central it is going to be a fair way to any beach

BarbaraofSeville · 22/06/2022 06:15

Is the theme for your travel journal of random trips 'more money than sense'?

I would have thought it best to ask Uber to find out how much it would cost to be driven to the beach. I would expect it to be loads, but I'm sure there would be many drivers who would be pleased to get such a big fare for a day's work. Or you could ask a local cab company, not just Uber.

But a lot of people would find it a bit weird to spend so long in a car with a stranger, but you never know, you'd be able to talk about your project and you might make a new friend.

Train sounds like a plan though.

OP I get why you started this thread, I'll leave others to find out.

Sparklingbrook · 22/06/2022 06:34

Is the original thread still up?

ILoveAGoodProsecco · 22/06/2022 06:38

Just sit in the front room in a bikini and a cocktail then blast the central heating for 2 hours. Let's be honest it'll fucking cost as much.

LoudSnoringDog · 22/06/2022 06:43

Why Uber??

you can get reasonably priced coaches from digbeth coach station to most coastal resorts

butterfly990 · 22/06/2022 06:44

From the thread, people were guessing Brean in Somerset.

WhatsErFace2020 · 22/06/2022 06:49

I think the closet beach is Weston supermare but I’ve never really enjoyed it there to be honest.

I would suggest here - really beautiful and fun!! Although not a real beach

www.cotswoldcountryparkandbeach.com

If you don’t drive it would’ve be difficult to get to so Uber May be your only option - but I’d try other transport options to get as close as you can then get an Uber

This is a TAAT where the OP got an Uber to the seaside from Birmingham.

What happened to the original thread? As with all MN threads these days, it simply disappeared from my threads I’m on list - no courteous message or anything like that in these days of the new improved site 🤨

anyway, I googled it and an Uber from Birmingham to Barmouth costs just under £150

It was deleted? What a huge surprise. Grin So this is now a thread about a deleted thread then.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 22/06/2022 07:09

Presumably, in the new Orwellian MN, that deleted thread never existed at all so this is no longer a TAAT.

Sparklingbrook · 22/06/2022 07:16

If you report a thread and it's deleted then when MNHQ email you back you can see what the deletion message said. That thread was Hmm to say the least.

LauraNicolaides · 22/06/2022 07:23

If I liked trips to the beach I would not be starting out from Birmingham.

But if you live in Birmingham you sort of have to…

ChagSameachDoreen · 22/06/2022 07:26

Take a train instead of wasting loads of money.

I don't know what's behind this (probably something mawkish) so I can't really say much more than this.

IIRC it was after pub closing here nice the Uber.

Sparklingbrook · 22/06/2022 07:30

Hence even!

BarbaraofSeville · 22/06/2022 07:35

If you can get to the beach in 2.5 hours from Birmingham on a train, that's pretty good seeing as it probably takes longer than that by road.
