Teachers - good present ideas for your TA?

As the title says...if you get your TA a present at the end of the year, do you have any good suggestions?

(No, it isn't obligatory but we do)

I was thinking instead of the usual bottle of wine and box of chocolates of getting a £20 Starbucks voucher so they can treat themselves although one is a 19 year old man who loves to party don’t know what to get him (I have 3?)

We've done costa vouchers before. My suggestion was a cinema voucher so they could treat themselves but not sure if one person would appreciate that or not.

I can highly recommend these... the maker is an ex primary school teacher... and they're really really fantastic! www.thebaytreeshop.com/product/end-of-year-teacher-teaching-assistant-gifts/221

I'm a TA
I'd love a coffee shop voucher
I'd love some lovely words in a card
I'd love bar nice choc a face mask bubble bath kinda gift bag
I'd love an amazon voucher - I'd buys books !!
I'd love some posh flowers

Forpoxsake · 24/06/2022 18:57

I’d say whatever you choose, a card to go with, with a lovely message about why you’ve appreciated them that year would go down well.
I’ve kept similar cards from previous managers and they mean so much more than a box of chocs.

Do TAs buy teachers gifts?

caringcarer · 24/06/2022 18:59

Good quality hand cream

Amazon voucher

KarrotKake · 24/06/2022 19:25

You need to know your TA.
Personally, as school support staff, I don't want candles, cosmetics/bath stuff, coffee stuff, mug.
I'd happily take a beautiful bunch of flowers, chocolate, red wine.

Mimilamore · 24/06/2022 20:41

Voucher of some kind, pay is abysmal, many have second or third jobs to pay the bills..

ldontWanna · 24/06/2022 20:51

A "real" card what you appreciate about them, what they helped you with etc.

Gift wise, the best are something that shows you know them, what they like , that you've listened to them throughout the year and noticed them. That can be hard if you don't have them full time,or have several or don't have a great relationship.

Some examples of my favourite gifts , a pack of drinks I drink every day (non alcoholic), merch from a specific book/movie I love, stationary, cat related things , nail salon vouchers (when I was into that).

Worst was a water bottle bought that morning at Tesco. I have never used a water bottle in the whole time I've been at that school and haven't after I got that one either . I only drink fizzy water.Grin

Cards I've kept every single one that had a real message in.

I also buy gifts for my teachers and other TA's I work with.

DS has more than one TA, I was going to give them a joint card. Now that you're all saying you like to keep them should I get one each?

AnnaKar · 24/06/2022 21:03

Houseplants are very ‘in’ at the minute and reasonably priced.

In fact even my late teens/early 20’s DS’s love their houseplants - especially those they can propagate!

Forpoxsake · 24/06/2022 21:08

I would give one each, if you give one it can’t be taken home and the TAs may not be all together/same class next school year

YY to the houseplants!

Do TAs buy teachers gifts?

I'm a TA and I always get my teacher a gift. Even though my pay is crap, I like to show my appreciation for the teacher supporting me in my work. Although this year I am in a team of 4 so it will only be a token gift!

OP I would honestly be over the moon with anything from flowers, chics, bottle of wine, just to know I'm appreciated is the main thing.

topdot · 24/06/2022 21:13

*chocs!

I am a Classroom Assistant in Scotland (finished today, woop woop!) and I can say hand on heart I appreciate any gift, large or small. Even the small gestures mean a lot, I also keep cards. This year one of the gifts I received where I thought 'I might steal that idea' was a hot chocolate pouch and a posh car air freshener in a wee clear gift bag with a nice message. I have worked alongside a fab colleague this year, I made her a wee pamper pack with a mini candle, face mask, chocolate and a mini wine bottle.
