Has anyone been recently?
I'm wondering if it's worth it for the roller coasters mainly next week?

Oh yay, another scot heading there next week! Ds's first time to somewhere with big rides. Am taking another teen as I'm a big feardie Grin
Ive been once before but we're talking last century Grin.

Ha I will also be in Lytham for Lewis Capaldi but sitting outside like a cheap skate Grin. I grew up in Lytham but live in Yorkshire now but I'm going to stay with a friend for a couple of weeks whilst the festival is on (lucky to WFH!).

Are you driving? If so give yourself plenty of time to get from Blackpool to Lytham as it is chaos, said friend works in Blackpool and it's not unheard of for it to take her 1.5 hours to get home during the festival Sad. Lytham festival is really great but the town is really not built for the size it has become.

slavetothekittens · 22/06/2022 10:55

Steeplechase......mmmm.....the one that tries to break your knees as you go along. Only went on once as dd wanted to go on it many years ago. Never again!

MsOllie · 22/06/2022 11:10

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 the cat and mouse has gone now so you're ok Grin

Get the train from Blackpool South, pleasure beach or Starr gate. Goes straight into lytham and is really quick. Blackpool North does not go to lytham though

I think he doesn't come on until after 8 and I'm planning to leave Blackpool by 4-5ish, PB shuts at 5 anyway I think.
I'm not staying, driving straight home afterwards.
A long and mad day, but worth it.

Not that Glasgow, and some other Scottish local authorities finish school on Friday (24th) so it might not be as quiet as you expect! The Glaswegians love a trip to Blackpool ;)

emmathedilemma · 22/06/2022 11:33

Note not "not"!!

Ours are the following week in Argyll.
It's fine though, I'm getting there early and have all day.
I'm really going for Lewis but thought I'd combine it with the PB because, why not?!.

Yes he won't be on until more like 9 probably so you will have plenty of time, just thought I'd warn you it won't be the 20 minute drive google will tell you Grin.

It's going be a long day for you but I'm sure you will have a great time, don't forget to get some doughnuts from the PB!

misssunshine4040 · 22/06/2022 12:08

I'm going on the Friday to see the Strokes.

What time do you think we should leave Blackpool to head to Lytham? We were hoping to do Blackpool pleasure beach during the day as we are heading home early the next morning

Definitely doughnuts.
I take food with me to save money but doughnuts will make a perfect car snack for the drive over to Lytham.
I drove to Leeds and back in a day last week to see George Ezra, and Manchester earlier this year.
I quite enjoy my middle of the night drives!

I would aim to leave at 4/4.30, you will at least hopefully most most of the commuter traffic then. The roads shut in lytham from 3pm so any time after that it's very busy.

LimesandClementines · 22/06/2022 12:23

Sorry that should have been Road not RoadS, only the main road along the front shuts but it obviously has a knock on effect everywhere else Smile.

Thanks that's really helpful! We want to be close to the front but have never been to this festival before so not sure how early we would need to queue etc to get close

Selkiesarereal · 22/06/2022 18:19

Yes Steeplechase is the horse one and the thrill seekers are terrified of it as you are sitting on a rickety horse the width of a knife tied in with a bit a shoestring really hoping you don’t slide off and die! Brilliant ride!
sadly the mousetrap is no more , possibly way to dangerous now.

LimesandClementines · 22/06/2022 18:31

@misssunshine4040 people do queue to get in for the gates opening but not sure how early sorry, I've been so many times I tend to just rock up at 8pm and stand the near the back Grin. Having said that The Strokes are the one night I have actual tickets for this year (you will see when you arrive how easy/nice it is to sit outside for free) and I want to see Wet Leg too so will probably arrive for 6.30/7.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 30/06/2022 18:08

Thought I'd do an update.
I had an amazing time.
I went on every ride, the gentle rides were fine obviously, Icon, the intense coaster is fantastic, actually brilliant.
Everything else was painful!
My back/head being banged into the restraints, ouch!
I even went on the horses thing, wtf?
Never, ever again, so much fun though and actually I lost my phone and guest services were brilliant.
Lewis Capaldi was worth the drive from Glasgow, I've been wanting to see him for years and all in all I had a great day, long and painful, (looking at you every coaster except Icon), and totally worth it.

I paid £32 in advance.
Didn't queue for more than ten minutes for anything, Icon was a walk on at one point so I did the back and front seats, I went on it 13 times!
I can't recommend it enough if you like rides, though I know I got lucky with the lack of queues.

Glad you had such a good time! How long were the queues to get into Lytham Festival and what time did you head over at?
Also, does anyone recommend Sandcastle water park?

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 30/06/2022 21:42

I left Blackpool at around 4.30
I'd booked parking in advance so straight in.
Seriously though, booking parking on Ticketmaster for £20.
It was a space in a field!
The queues to get in were constant, but moving from 5pm.

Glad you had a great night OP, I ended up getting tickets off fb on the day and had really enjoyed it he was amazing!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 01/07/2022 15:46

He really was, I'm still on a high!
I ended up on a random guys shoulders in the crowd, I got chatting to them when they started dancing to Harry Style's song, I'm a big fan.
Lewis is hilarious, loved him taking the piss out of the guys watching from their balcony!
