3 days in Majorca, no car, low budget, where would you go?

Hi, I'm helping my son book a short break with his GF for after his A Levels. Any recommendations for areas? It's mostly a relaxation holiday, somewhere quiet (they're not into clubbing) but would like to be somewhere scenic, with walks and a beach nearby.

Palma, close to airport, loads to do.

Hellocatshome · 21/06/2022 17:24

Yes to Palma, loads of cheap easy to use buses if they want to go for the day trip to somewhere else but enough to do there for the 3 days.

HSKAT · 21/06/2022 17:32

Palma also!

Palma or Soller

Clymene · 21/06/2022 17:34

Definitely Palma. Mallorca has loads of well marked walking trails which you can find easily online

Crikeyalmighty · 21/06/2022 17:39

Paguera or Santa ponsa beach resorts- but mainly German- lovely beach too - lots of bars and restaurants but not Magaluf ! Bus goes all along that coast for pennies. About 30 mins to Palma I love Palma too - but just depends if they were thinking 'city'

About 4 miles from Magaluf if they did fancy one night a bit 'full on'

DirtyteaCup · 21/06/2022 17:48

Palma- less that 25 euro in a taxi
Look at the melias- some are young geared
You MUST book to eat out in advance or you wont eat!

Squaffle · 21/06/2022 18:10

Alcudia is great for a day trip, medieval walled city (no cars) with lots of bars and restaurants in the central square, and a market. You can walk along the top of parts of the walls.

Squaffle · 21/06/2022 18:11

Can’t recall name of beach but there is a big sandy one near Alcudia, a short taxi ride away.

Sallypally0 · 21/06/2022 18:41

They want quiet and scenic not a busy built up area.

Pollensa would be my pick.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/06/2022 19:05

Second Paguera, it's a real hidden gem, I don't like Puerto Pollensa we've been a few times and it's fun when they find out you're not German.

Not soller if they're on a budget, it's quite expensive to eat out there and accommodation is likely to be expensive.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/06/2022 21:26

I also like camp de mar - only 2km from paguera so handy for that and also for popping to Andraitx , which is lovely too. All these are connected to Palma on a very efficient cheap bus - which is why I suggested rather than puerto pollensa or Cala d'or- both of which I also like but are very much geared up to families with small kids and lots of big complexes. The lovely individual stuff in pollensa would I think be too expensive too - it's incredibly popular

Germolenequeen · 21/06/2022 21:30

Palma Nova 😊

Germolenequeen · 21/06/2022 21:32

Cala D'Or is nice but a longer transfer from the airport

BarbaraofSeville · 21/06/2022 21:36

We stayed here before it was done up.

It was very nice then with lovely food and we only paid about £70 pn B&B for a double room for a last minute short break, but its more than doubled in price since then unfortunately.

weebarra · 21/06/2022 21:38

I'm a pollensa fan, but not for a young couple! Love Palma for 3 day break!

Crikeyalmighty · 21/06/2022 21:41

That looks really nice @BarbaraofSeville - sort of thing we book - we are off in 2 weeks to Paguera staying at the villamil - glad we booked it a month ago- cost has almost doubled since we booked. I like this resort because it's quite big but not chavvy and a great beach to just stroll along with east access to Palma too - doing 2 nights in Palma first- which we always do

8DPWoah · 21/06/2022 21:46

Another vote for Palma, there's enough to do there (and the train to Soller and then on to the port) and the beach is right next to the city. Airport bus was good last time I went too.

Puerto de Soller is also a nice place to stay and on paper quieter but in reality gets very busy during the tram operating hours. But pleasant with it!

Germolenequeen · 21/06/2022 21:30

Palma Nova 😊

The best thing about Palma Nova is Crazy Golf and macdonalds
Not a lot to recommend it.

Germolenequeen · 21/06/2022 22:41

@DirtyteaCup

In your opinion 🤨

Beach is lovely and there's plenty of shops to potter round and places to eat.

It's s a short journey to Palma in a cab.

Also some good reasonably priced hotels - OP mentioned a budget 😏

They are 18 though
PN is families and over 65s
The beach is distinctly average as all South Mallorca beaches are
Shops are tourist tat- the few decent shops closed years ago- it used to have clothes and toy shops for locals but no longer.

Germolenequeen · 21/06/2022 23:20

@DirtyteaCup

I've seen plenty of youngsters there - you've obviously got a bee in your bonnet about the place so 🙋‍♀️

Mindgone · 22/06/2022 01:04

Another vote for Palma here, beautiful city, close to the airport, and beautiful sandy beaches too. Went there on a girls trip pre covid for 3 nights and had a great time. One day was spent chilling on the beach and swimming in the sea.
