Liberty London

So I've just found myself child free from Tues - Sun.

I want to do something that doesn't involved 3 loads of washing, using the dishwasher or indeed doing something useful like clearing out my loft etc.

I want to take myself 'off' somewhere...
I don't live mainland UK so going anywhere will involve a flight which ears into budget unfortunately.

I love love love Liberty London & was thinking of heading that direction. My geography is shocking but I think it's Carnaby / Soho direction???

Can anyone recommend a decent but affordable hotel using this area as a base? I'm taking maybe £150 per night ish? Or is it an impossible task?

This is my first sort of 'grown up' thing I've done on my own since leaving an abusive marriage and I'm feeling anxiety of not having anyone to bat ideas off (even if he was an abusive wanker..)

Any wise word MNetters or indeed any hotel recommendations?
Also which Airport is less hassle if there is such a thing atm...

Thanks

Can you fly into Heathrow - the Paddington express is quick and there are hotels around Paddington/ Marylebone which are nice and central (and you are close to Hyde park/Regent’s Park depending on where you end up)

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/06/2022 21:49

Heathrow express is quickest to Paddington.
Stansted express goes to Liverpool St.
Gatwick Express goes to Victoria.

I think the suggestion above for hotels at Paddington is good.

Sorry op do you mean this weekend? The one with the train strike? I would avoid London like the plague this weekend tbh.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/06/2022 21:53

Is thete anything else you fancy trying or doing or seeing? I posted asking for help with an upcoming trip with ds and had brilliant responses from the MN hive mind.

Elizabeth line is cheaper and only slightly longer than Heathrow express to Paddington. Don't go near London this week, the strikes and knock on effects are likely to be horrendous.

Haus1234 · 20/06/2022 21:55

If you mean tomorrow, London is going to be very difficult to get around with a train and a tube strike. If you mean next week, sure sounds fun!

KatyN · 20/06/2022 21:57

Oh my, that sounds like the dreamiest weekend plan ever. Liberty is so central you can stay slightly further out and tube/bus in. It's just off regent street not far from Oxford Circus.

Is there something specific you live about them? For me it's the fabric so I'd be happy going anywhere they stock it.

I am unbearably jealous.

DirtyteaCup · 20/06/2022 22:05

Hilton Curio Westminster- but just looked and £335 this week due to the strikes? usually well sub £150. Every Hilton in London is sold out or the most expensive prices I have every seen.
next to Tate Britain
88 bus to liberty takes less than 20 minutes.
Uber boat down the river to Greenwich from outside.

next week they are all sold out as well.

KittenKong · 20/06/2022 22:08

This week will be a pain because of the strikes. Taxis and buses are completely booked up for the whole week and I assume hotels will be too.

Davros · 20/06/2022 22:10

I love Liberty too
[misses point of thread]

TableDesk · 20/06/2022 22:44

Ah damn yes I was meaning this week... I forgot about the strikes, its going to be a bollocks isnt it <sob>

Re liberty, the fabric, the fragrance section, the... Absolutely everything! But not something you can do with kids hence thinking it would be a perfect strong single female trip!

If you are a happy walker - assuming you can get from the airport to central London and get a hotel!

good luck - but can you push it back?
