It's too hot to dive under the covers and my very fetching makeshift sleep mask (a sock) is proving useless as a lightning blocker.

It's been going on for an hour now. Bastard.

Ooh, where are you? No sign here!

CatNamedEaster · 18/06/2022 22:40

Oh and because I'm a child of the 70s I can't put the telly on because I'm about 99% sure that the lightning will make a beeline for us (even though we don't have an arial) and the house will blow up.

SE coast.

Dramatic much? I love a good storm and wish we had one here! Your house is not going to blow up, but don't plug any electronics in overnight, especially phones, laptops, tablets etc. If the motherboards get fried you'll lose your data.

Hawkins001 · 18/06/2022 22:44

I'd get the popcorn and watch instead.

worraliberty · 18/06/2022 22:46

It's just finished here (SE)

I always worry about lightening as there's been quite a few local strikes over the years - 3 very bad ones on local houses.

worraliberty · 18/06/2022 22:47

Sorry, I'm guessing that hasn't made you feel better OP 😊😂

Floralnomad · 18/06/2022 22:47

Im SE and it’s still going on here -it’s lovely.

CandyLeBonBon · 18/06/2022 22:47

We're currently driving through it!

Yahyahs22 · 18/06/2022 22:49

I'm SE and I didn't see any??

iknowwhatyoudid · 18/06/2022 22:50

I'm SE and haven't had any yet either! Love a good lightening show aswell to hopefully will be here soon.

CatNamedEaster · 18/06/2022 22:54

No, not "dramatic much", just a light hearted attempt to pass 5 minutes (sigh).

But our neighbour 3 doors away did actually have their house destroyed by the fire caused by a direct strike 5 years ago, so it's not that bizarre to have it cross my mind. 😀

I love storms, have great childhood memories of being bundled into the car to go and watch them out to sea. I just don't want it now when my peri-menopausal sleep record has been 5 hours for the past week.😂

I'm in the south and have a huge lightening storm here. Just heard the loudest crash of thunder of my life! I checked it hadn't woken my dd on the monitor, which it hadn't (phew!) then dived under the covers 😂. DH then came upstairs and said even he jumped out of his skin when he heard it because we had an immediate power cut.

CatNamedEaster · 18/06/2022 23:01

Same here. DS fast asleep, even the cats couldn't care less.😀

Thank you for this!
I just looked on here.

We have been in London today on the Anti Poverty March and mid-afternoon it felt so heavy we were certain there would be a storm.

Luckily we got on the coach and were home early. It’s poured all day here in South Wales but no storms so I am living vicariously and watching and listening for the strikes in the South East.

This is the sky that greeted us this evening.

DaysOfOurLives88 · 18/06/2022 23:01

I remember waking up to awful lightening in my early 20s, thinking the world was going to end. 🤣

gingersplodgecat · 18/06/2022 23:23

We've just had on and off drizzle since mid-morning. Quite a change since yesterday.

Yahyahs22 · 18/06/2022 23:35

Just reached me in SE now

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 18/06/2022 23:36

Haven’t got it yet….we’ve just been listening to the Isle of Wight festival so we may be further along

ticktickticktickBOOM · 18/06/2022 23:41

Just reached me in SE too. Makes me feel cosy and grounded like being home snuggled up in bed as a child

powershowerforanhour · 18/06/2022 23:51

YABU because now I am going to spend ages glued to lightningmaps.org . The Bay of Biscay is copping it currently as is Florida.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 18/06/2022 23:56

Ooooooh these thunder rolls are getting really loud, long and scary . . .

riesenrad · 19/06/2022 17:23

It's not dramatic at all, lightning does strike houses or it can strike trees that come down on top of houses and cars.

Fortunately we didn't have any yesterday.
