WWYD - toddler has 40.3 temp

Posting here for traffic please be kind I’m so worried

2 year old has had high temp for two days, put some of it down to the heatwave but today it was still 39.6

called 111 had a doctors appointment this morning and they diagnosed tonsillitis and gave antibiotics

however even with continuing pain relief his temp is still on the up and is now at 40.3

he won’t eat (obviously the throat is sore) and is clearly very unwell, is lethargic and not himself

i’m back on the phone to 111 but I just feel like am I being OTT because he’s already been diagnosed

hes such a trooper usually (can genuinely be quite unweel and still be himself) but today he’s been so poorly

Am I being dramatic?

You can never be too OTT with a little one. Give Calpol/Ibprofen, take clothing off, sponge down with cool water and dry. Give plenty of fluids. If temp does not come down bundle in car and take to A&E.

Also with regards to his rash - if you can’t do the glass test because he’s not being compliant then I’ve always been told to pull the skin tight across the back/ tummy/ wherever the rash is and if it disappears then it wouldn’t be a positive glass test as it is technically the same technique.

Please do not sponge down with water.

IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, GO TO A&E.

It will not make him worse.

Mum233 · 18/06/2022 22:48

Hopefully you have taken him to a and e. Hope he is better soon!

SoSo19 · 18/06/2022 22:54

I really hope you’re at A&E.

If not you need to go now and as a PP said, ask “could this be sepsis?”

Please do not sponge down with water.

Agreed! Do not use cool / cold water. Luke warm is best

whataballbag · 19/06/2022 07:58

How is your DS now OP?

QuidditchThroughtheAges · 19/06/2022 12:15

How is he today? Did you go to a&e?

PinkButtercups · 19/06/2022 12:19

I'd rather wait 8 hours in A&E which tbh probably wouldn't be that long for a child having a high temp and a fever. They only usually say the waiting times for adult A&E. I hope your LO is on the mend.

PinkButtercups · 19/06/2022 12:20

I meant seizures not fever.

HSKAT · 19/06/2022 15:04

How are things?

Kellog88 · 22/06/2022 21:11

OP .. how is your little one??
