Music at party

So we've funked up, got a party in August and can't find a dj. What do people do today as we're not on top of tech. How to do a Play list I can update during the night?

We had no DJ for our wedding. Made a Spotify playlist and once people have had a drink they will probably piss about with it too. Just have an iPad or similar

We have a laptop and there's a pa system in the venue. I'm guessing I'll need to subscribe to Spotify or we'll get ads every so often.

I would check with your venue that you can use their p.a system. They may charge you for the usage and maybe for someone to oversee the 'hire' to make sure you do not overload on the volume. Also, have you tried contacting agencies for a dj? I know of a couple of dj's who get work through these and they'll travel to practically anywhere in the country - dependant on price.

Yes I subscribe to Spotify. You could probably get a 30 day trial.

No problem with the venue, we do am dram there and know the owners but thanks for the heads up. Husband doesn't want to book a dodgy dj and the ones we've had recommended aren't available. How can you tell a good dj?

Depends on the venue and what system they have in place. When we did this for our last family party, we were just hiring a function room so we borrowed some big speakers from a school (friend taught at) and made several playlists
(Background / floor fillers / 60s, 80s, 00s / party songs / etc)
Once people had had a few drinks lots of people came and started choosing things from Spotify.
Check if you can use wifi there or if it all needs to be downloaded first.

Could you hire a juke box?

Otherwise I know nothing about Spotify but can you gave a list that other people can add to beforehand? Or ask people to send say 3 requests and add them to the list.

Sorry, that was barely literate. Hope you got the gist!
