Where do these spammers get my number?!

5 calls I've had today from various parts of the country. I've also had a few during the week too; varies from hangs up if I answer, or someone from Curry's PC world. I'm now just ignoring the calls.

I've blocked them each time but seriously where do they get my number? I'm always very careful online with my phone number and if I'm just making enquiries I always use 'hide my email'. If it asks for a phone number I always use 07123456789 unless it's something I'm going ahead with!

Register with TPS. I know it doesn't get rid of all of them, but drastically reduced the amount of spam calls I get.

They sometimes use computer programmes to dial all possible phone numbers starting with 07 and see which ones ring and hope they answer.

Does that work with mobile numbers?

It will help a lot. I used to have the same problem. It's quite rare since I registered.

I'm with TPS and while it does reduce the amount it doesn't stop all. I still get calls about a car accident. I think it's from getting insurance quotes - the ones where you get lots at once, not individual ones. I try to track what I've used my number for and I think it's that. I can't prove it though. So I now put a fake number and haven't had any for ages.

I remember years ago on money saving expert trying to free stuff and coupons registering for loads of websites. I still get spam from that 15 years later. There's something hidden in T&C's where it says they can contact you even when you've ticked the box not to. Emails are much easier to unsubscribe from though.
