Luxury holiday ideas

We have just had a week of upsets including a bereavement which has, amongst other things made us super aware of our own mortality. We are going to try and live a little and have been chatting about things we would like to do.

I've always wanted to go on one of those luxury holidays you see on TV with swim up rooms, all inclusive, the whole lot. Somewhere hot, no preference for where. If you had a budget of 6k (for 2 people) and were looking at 7-10days anytime from late Jan to late May, or even Sept-Dec 2023 where would you go? What destination gets you most bang for your buck? Is there a particular time you choose which is a bit cheaper? All ideas welcome.
Thank you

How about this Vietnam resort? Beautiful pools, villas with private pools if you want that, amazing room design and a superb World Heritage City very nearby for sightseeing.

We're going to Zanzibar in July, same budget as you.

Have a look at the El Dorado resorts in Mexico

Twinklyrocks · 18/06/2022 07:39

@BadLad that is the kind of luxury I mean right there!!! DH has never been to Hoi An and when I was last there I had a backpackers budget🤣
@readingismycardio if you didn't mind sharing the accommodation you're using I would appreciate that. Would love to go to zanzibar!
@Fivemoreminutes1 the white sand!!! Love it

I have been to the Nam Hai. Stunning but it’s not AL. Eating out in Hoi An is cheap though.

I would double check the price per night there though. It will be £££ plus of course your flight costs to Hoi An.

Its a Four Seasons as well one of the most expensive hotel brands around

AuntieMarys · 18/06/2022 07:50

Lindos Blu

70kid · 18/06/2022 08:25

ok probably not what you want as it’s at the cheaper end of your budget 😂 but I don’t want to fly very far at the moment

I’m going to the Gloria Palace hotel in Amadores in Gran Canaria in September

Booked a premium room with swim up private pool room
All inclusive .

I stayed there several years ago and it has beautiful views and amazing spa

its costing around 4k plus flights in September for 2 weeks plus if you book direct you pay when you arrive .

I’ve stayed at Merru Island in the Maldives a few years ago and had the water villa on stilts and that was amazing but cost over 10k as we had two weeks there and two weeks in Thailand

Check luxury hotels in Monaco or the Cote d'Azur.

DramaLlamadodah · 18/06/2022 08:34

You might get Sandals Granada for that sort of price-worth a look!

harriethoyle · 18/06/2022 08:35

Have a look at the ikos resorts @Twinklyrocks . Short haul but the best hotel we've ever stayed at. Going back this year!

balalake · 18/06/2022 10:01

An option in the UK which you might wish to consider is Portmeirion in north Wales. Not the warmth unless you are fortunate as I was when I went in July 2017 but the luxury and the unique architecture.

OompaLoompaa · 18/06/2022 10:05

Daios Cove in Crete fits your brief.

Twinklyrocks · 18/06/2022 11:02

Thank you. All of these are magnificent suggestions. @70kid im not adverse to going to Gran Canaria. Ill go where there's a swim up room and is fancy pants.

This isn't a usual thing for me, I'm happy to go local with my dog or get a backpack and go further but I've a luxury itch I want to scratch and this is it🤣

You need to be careful with Zanzibar if you want to swim in the sea. I always get it mixed up which is stupid as have been far too many times (lived on the mainland) but I think it's the East Coast that isn't great for swimming due to the tides etc. Think the North/West were OK but its been a while so sure someone can correct me.

Friends went to the Dominican Republic and had a swim up pool and was A.I. can find out more if you want.
Seychelles are lovely though I didn't go A.i...just a small B&B near an empty beach, Maldives are also an obvious choice.... stayed at a low key resort...the Centara Ras Fushi I think it was called. Dont think it has the swim up pools but there's a place in Oman called Zighy Bay that I've always wanted to go to and some of the desert places in Oman and the UAE look lovely.

DramaLlamadodah · 18/06/2022 11:31

Not a swim up room but resort looks amazing. 7 days in Jan 6k on the nose (high season so probably get a swim up if you look for other dates)

@katscamel zighy bay is amazing but it’s a lot more than 6k

katscamel · 18/06/2022 12:45

@Nw22 ..... did think it might be. I love Oman and ZB is on my bucket list.

Nw22 · 18/06/2022 12:47

@katscamel the beachfront Villa is the best place I have ever stayed. It’s beautiful. The food and drink is very expensive though and they don’t do all inclusive

stratforduponavon · 18/06/2022 13:15

Chedi in Oman?

FusionChefGeoff · 18/06/2022 14:33

Beachcomber Shandrani in Mauritius was my idea of heaven on earth.

No swim up rooms but an excellent AI product and a we booked a private speedboat day trip which was affordable and very 'bucket list'
