What to buy for second baby?

I am currently pregnant with DC2. DS is 7 years old and we didn't think we'd have another one so we have no baby stuff left that he used except a couple of babygros that I kept for sentimental reasons, and frankly it was so long ago that I can't even remember for the most part what was and wasn't useful.

So aside from the obvious - buggy, cot etc - what would you buy for baby #2 that you didn't buy for baby #1 and regretted it? Or vice versa - what did you buy for baby #1 that was completely useless for baby 2?

When DS was a baby our top must have item was the sleepyhead (I believe now called the dockatot) but just looked that up and they're no longer recommended for overnight sleep. I don't know where he'd have slept otherwise - he wouldn't sleep on me or in the cot...he needed to feel "snug" but not be held constantly iyswim. Hopefully this baby will be more chilled 🙃

Advice welcome. Happy to buy stuff second hand where I can.

We had a Next2Me cot for DS2, wish I had had one with DS1. Otherwise, not much different.

I wondered about a bedside sleeper but was put off by the fact they get outgrown so quickly

I bought a white noise machine because I knew my elder children couldn’t be silent while baby was napping.
Also bought a steam bottle-steriliser to save time.
A high chair with removable and machine-washable everything including the straps.

We have a white noise machine that we sometimes still use for DS! That will definitely definitely get re used.

Planning to breastfeed (all being well) so won't need a steriliser.

Good shout on the highchair

With my 2nd I realised how much crap I'd bought for DC1 that I really didn't need! If you're planning to BF then get a couple of nursing bras when you're about 37 weeks pregnant, for correct sizing. The high chair idea with washable straps is genius - I don't think they had those when my DC were babies, but the straps get minging! Lots of burp clothes/muslins, some kind of baby carrier, a lightweight pushchair (not a travel system - horrible bulky things!), a travel cot - endless uses - DC2 slept in one in our room for about 15 months, a changing mat that you can stick on top of a chest of drawers, and enough, but not too many of each stage of clothes. I found we always had loads of stuff that had barely been worn, so a pile of vests with poppers at the crotch (because they get the worst of the poonamis), a few footed sleepers, a couple of blankets, sun shade and rain cover for push chair, bouncy chair, play mat for floor ...
