Travelling to London next weekend. HELP

I am going to London next Friday for a long awaited concert. I have paid a fortune for the tickets and waited almost 3 years to see this band. We have a (none refundable) hotel Booked and trains booked from Stafford to London Euston on Friday. We are then leaving London on Saturday morning and I have a 60th birthday party I can’t miss on Saturday night .

Somehow the train strike has kind of passed me by. However I’ve now read all
about it and I’m totally panicking. We can’t leave any earlier than we are due to work but I’m more worried about being stranded in London on Saturday! Is it going to hell (stupid question I know)

I did think about driving but im
worried we’ll get caught in traffic and I’ve never driven in a big city before, driving in London would terrify me. Plus it’s a 3 and a half hour drive, we’d be cutting it very fine

Usually going to the London Stadium you would get the train from St Pancras to Stratford/ Stratford Int I am not sure if that is a striking line. If it isn't then Cockfosters is good as it goes into St P. Cockfosters has good parking.
Otherwise is the central line out to Stratford? So any northern tube station would work

Weatherwithme · 17/06/2022 15:41

You can park on residential streets around High Barnet tube and tube car parks on that route. It’s nearer A1 than M1 though. You should also be able find free or cheap parking near Brent Cross tube station. That’s just off M1.

Park at Stanmore on the Jubilee Line. Change onto the Met Line for Euston.

Sahgah · 17/06/2022 15:42

If your coming from the north drive into Stanmore on the end of the jubilee line. There is a car park there and then get the tube into London.

PeggyLeggy · 17/06/2022 15:44

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I really appreciate it. I’m not trying to bat everyone’s suggestions away but it looks like the tube stations with parking are a good 3 hours 40 from my house then another hour on the tube so we’ll miss loads of the concert 😢

Look at JustPark site, if I read it right there is plenty of parking within walking distance to the stadium nearby from 4pm 24th to 10am 25th starts at £25

Sillystripytail · 17/06/2022 15:53

We were in a similar situation with going to Ed Sheeran on the 25th. We decided to drive and booked a parking space on Just Park. Super easy to do and it was only £22.

NotDavidTennant · 17/06/2022 16:00

Is there anyone who could drive down on Saturday morning and pick you up?

Respectforpeople · 17/06/2022 16:20

Sorry thought you were talking about Wembley not Stratford. How far is Epping to drive as Central line is 27 minutes to Stratford?

PeggyLeggy · 17/06/2022 16:20

I’ve tried just park, everything I click on is sold out even if it says it’s available 😭.

I don’t think there’s anyone who’d fetch us, it’s a 7
hour round trip at a minimum

Does anyone know if i can park at Westfield? Or is that a big no no?

Have a look also on parkonmydrive.com

Is there no way you can leave earlier on Friday to get there? I'd be begging my boss to let me go early or swapping with someone if possible. Obviously not always as easy as that depending on what you do.

What's the earliest time you can leave, and what time do you need to be in Stratford for? We might be able to figure out which tube station will be best for you.

Yes you can. My OH does it regularly to watch West Ham.

You can but I'd be surprised if you get a space getting there later. Their website shows 5,000 spaces but given that the stadium holds many more than that, who will also be battling the train strikes, I'd imagine you'd have to get there very early to get a space.

You'll probably be better getting somewhere a bit further out then getting the tube in. Either a tube station with parking, or a tube station near a parkonmydrive spot.

If you come down the M40 way you'd probably get parked in Uxbridge, Hillingdon or Ruislip but it's a longer journey across town. If you come down the M1 you can try the stations more to the north and north west of London, but it's not an area I'm familiar with unfortunately.

LIZS · 17/06/2022 16:39

Is there anyone who could meet you off the Oxford Tube or another destination partway home?

PeggyLeggy · 17/06/2022 15:33

Thanks everyone for the advice. I’ve just called the hotel and they said we can move the reservation to a different date if needed so that’s a possibility, I go to london once every few months to see a show/ do all the touristy bits.

if I could find parking near the stadium it would br ok but it appears everything is booked up. Does anyone have any idea about where the best place is to park (coming from the north) that is an easy train in?

Leave the car at leyton/leytonstone or anywhere east on the central line. They are easy to get to off the m25.

BlanketsBanned · 17/06/2022 16:40

Can you look at parking near liverpool street station then get a bus to the stadium, the 8 or 388.

kindlyensure · 17/06/2022 16:48

Watford? (I would drive back after also. It would be a late night but at least you'd get back.)

AtLeastPretendToCare · 17/06/2022 16:55

OP if you go around the M25 to the M11 and come up there I can message you places you can park near a tube station. PM me.

PeggyLeggy · 17/06/2022 16:55

I’ve booked a space 🎉. It’s 33 minute away according to city mapper but that’s 10 minutes walk to the station, 12 minutes on the train, 11 minutes the other side so hopefully it’ll be ok

Sounds good. Where is it.

AlternativePerspective · 17/06/2022 19:04

Are you travelling with Avanti? Because they’re not taking any bookings on the interim days so your only option will be to travel on the train you have booked anyway.

Evans83 · 17/06/2022 19:17

Could you park at the hotel and get an Uber to the concert? Prices may be more due to strike action but could be an option?
