Honking horns abroad

Just this, what's with all the honking of horns?! I'm on hols, having a cuppa on the balcony above a, admittedly fearsome road, where they're all overtaking and pulling out in front of each other and honking like mad!

I drive at home and almost never honk my horn, unless I'm about to take out a pedestrian who's stumbled out onto the road.

Just wondered if there's something I don't know about driving abroad, that I don't know about. Do they teach you to honk as much as possible? None of them seem particularly wound up, but to listen to it you'd think everyone is raging!

Have a look in the highway code for 'abroad' wherever that may be.

No idea where you are, but I spent some time and Barbados and it's common to give a little bip on the horn as you round a bend just to alert oncoming vehicles to your presence.

Italy?

Which country?

Sri Lankan drivers seek to honk their horn at any manoeuvre....

Yes always honking in Italy - you can give them a little honk and they all honk back - like saying hello 😁 fist shake too for good measure

I'm in Greece. I've been to Rome, now that's a whole other story of driving nightmares

Where I am you honk your horn when cars are wandering into your path because the driver is on their mobile. This is pretty much all day every day.
