Snapchat - age and how to be safe?

Please could I ask for your views on how old is reasonable to allow Snapchat? My DD is exceptionally sensible (won't say how old she is until I see the replies) and happy to allow phone checks etc at the drop of a hat etc.

It genuinely seems virtually all her friends have it, except her. I like to pride myself on the level of freedom we give DD, but I've always been strict on social media use. I am wondering however if I'm being too strict!

My DD is 15 and has just started using it. Most of her friends had it maybe a couple of years ago?
Definitely not for primary school age and only really what your child is mature enough to use it.

My DD is 11 and I won’t let her have it just yet, the problem with Snapchat is that messages disappear so it’s harder to keep tabs on any potential bullying or other problems when they’re younger. I might reconsider in a year or two but for now it’s a firm no.

Never - Snapchat can’t be regulated. I sure won’t have it as an adult either.

there are plenty of other social media apps that are safer

Minimum age is 13

Snapchat is the worst because the messages disappear. That’s why the kids love it, because it’s parent proof. I’d try to hold off till 14 really but depends on the child, her friends and her safety awareness.
