How old were kids when you started giving them pocket money?

Just that really, and did they have to do anything for it?

DD is 5 and a half and I'm wondering about starting to give her pocket money but clueless on where to start, how much to give, what would be good tasks for her to earn it/earn extra.

Thanks 😊

Around 5 ish. My dc are 6 and 8 and get £3.50 a week. They don't have specific tasks as such, there are things they're expected to do regardless of money, keeping their rooms reasonably tidy, sorting out their uniforms etc.

My DS is 9 and he gets £1.50 a week, he has to help out, keep his room tidy to get it. He doesn't spend much of it, he's saver.

My DD, recently turned 6, gets 2.50 a week. Mainly to stop her asking for things, I can tell her to save her pocket money instead. She's really proud when she saves it up.

I don't ask her to do anything for it. But I do threaten to knock 10p off if she's acting up 😁

Eldest was about 6 or 7 , youngest since she was around 5 . They get 50p extra each year a week so youngest is 7 and gets £2.50 a week and eldest (11) gets 4.50 a week .
don’t have to do anything for it but are both pretty good . I think it’s great to help money management at a young age .

Around 10, up till then I bought everything, now the pocket money buys some items of what they want. Then as soon as they could got a child account with a debit card/contactless, helping to understand spending etc.

6 & 8 year old get £2 a week each.
we go to a shop on Friday after school
Where they buy their own treat from their pocket money.
they have to do 2 small jobs a day ie recycling out feed pets etc but it’s not linked to pocket money.

Mine is 5.5 and just started asking, she has no idea of the value of money so I'll start soon!
