Fat freezing

ThePastafarian · 16/06/2022 11:53

Has anyone had a fat freezing procedure? I'm mulling it over. Basically I'm a fairly slender person with a mega fat belly that nothing will shift. I've been between 9 and 10.5 stone in my adult life, but even at my slimmest my belly was 1-2 dress sizes bigger than the rest of me. It's not bloating - it just sticks out and is flabby! Would fat freezing really make it just magically melt away... Or is it a swizz? Has anyone tried it?

Isn’t this the thing linda evangelista tried?

Beamur · 16/06/2022 12:03

I haven't tried it but it can go wrong. Happened to former supermodel Linda Evangelists. Instead of dissipating the fat, it has stayed in a solid block. Can't be easily removed. I think I'd put up with a bit of belly.

What about liposuction?

DPotter · 16/06/2022 12:07

Hey Swifty the OP asked a reasonable question, no need for the snark. This is Chat not AIBU

swifty1974 · 16/06/2022 12:09

Apologies, but come on. Somebody has to call a spade a spade otherwise whats the point of even answering the question. Maybe I could have been a little less sarcastic but Im not wrong am I?

How do you know op eats biscuits and doesn't walk? That a pretty nasty uncalled for thing to say.

What have you already tried op?

nightshiftsaremynemisis · 16/06/2022 12:18

I’ve had fat freezing on my stomach. Similar to you- fairly slim, eat well, exercise but had a tummy which was loose and fatty (post two babies but also tend to carry weight on my stomach). People asked if I was pregnant due to it looking so out of proportion to the rest of me.
I had two sessions, around 8 weeks apart. Has certainly helped, I would say it’s 50% better than it was before. It hasn’t given me a washboard stomach but I never expected it to. I’m much happier with my shape.
it’s not a magic fix though, and needs to be alongside a healthy lifestyle, diet and exercise to make any difference.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 16/06/2022 12:21

Cut sugar / alcohol completely and increase exercise.

Oh come on where's your sense of humour. Nobody on the planet has fat they cant shift with exercise and proper nutrition. (thats the science bit). I was just making the point that anything is possible unless you tell yourself its not.

Sure go get the treatment but personally if it was bothering me to the point of risking a procedure such as freezing I'd just do something about it i.e. exercise and proper balanced diet and not expect overnight results....we all seem to want everything instantly these days....make some changes, do it consistently until you notice a difference....its the only way as far as Im concerned

Bloody hell who pissed in your chips! I've been a size 10/12 with a pot belly for as long as I can remember from sporty teen, to starving student (well that was also probably a beer belly), thru two kids, menopause and now sporty 50+. I eat very healthy, barely drink and exercise regularly. Yep, still have a pot belly.

Anyway for the Op, and I've read about it too. I'm not convinced it would solve your/our problem. I think it may reduce a bit (as PP said) but I don't think it would magically disappear. Sorry. And of course there are risks. Rather than MN I'd be looking for recommendations of good clinics or doctors locally and going to speak to them about options which may include this but also other procedures.

ThePastafarian · 16/06/2022 12:48

A handful of you seem to have basic reading comprehension problems. I am slim. My BMI is about 22. When my BMI was 20 (which was when I had a borderline eating disorder and was NOT healthy) my belly was still flabby despite the rest of me being about a size 8.

I already eat well and exercise. No amount of exercise/diet will spot reduce parts of your body. You are an idiot if you think so.

I don't want to - and don't need to - shrink overall. I am asking for people's experiences of a procedure designed to tackle certain areas.

nightshifts Thank you for your answer. I'm not expecting miracles, but - exactly as you describe - want to be a bit more in proportion.

All that proves is that youre only doing enough to maintain your current weight....if you ate more and moved less you'd put on weight. Similarly if you ate less and moved more you'd lose the belly....come on

Do people actually want a straight answer on here or not.....losing weight is very hard and takes dedication, discipline and patience but please please please dont tell me its not possible because thats simply not true for anyone....the truth is that many of us are just not mentally prepared for the hard work and give up. Then they go through life kidding themselves that no matter what you do you cant shift the belly....it is possible....it just has to matter enough for you to sort it rather than trying to freeze it off cos you cant be bothered

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 16/06/2022 13:51

My BMI is around 18 yet if I eat unhealthy - even just bread, cake, etc - and don’t do exercise involving core strength I get a stomach. That happens Within a week. I have to stay completely on top of what I eat and exercise 1-2 hours 5-6 days a week. That’s just reality

ThePastafarian · 16/06/2022 14:05

@swifty1974 Nobody is asking about weightloss. I do not need to lose weight. Much thinner than I am now and I look gaunt and ill. I've BEEN thinner, looked bony and still had a belly. Or course it would be possible to starve myself into having no belly - but I would be ill and undernourished and the rest of me would look awful. I am currently slim and healthy - apart from my belly. I have lived in this body for 42 years. I have both gained and lost weight in it. I know how to do that, but it doesn't change the proportion between my belly and the rest of me. Do you need some help with the big words? Or are you so caught up.in your own self-righteousness you aren't really here to engage with what I'm saying, you just want a space to rant about irrelevant issues?

Yodaisawally · 16/06/2022 14:35

You can't spot reduce. End of. I've got a fat nose post pregnancy, sweet fa I can do about it.

SuziSecondLaw · 16/06/2022 14:44

I looked into this at one point, because as pp has said, you can't spot reduce.

I was incredibly thin and bony all over, except my legs which were 2 sizes bigger and really jiggy.

It's frustrating.

Strength training really really helps. I still have chunky legs, but they're a lot more defined now, and it made me look better in general, top to toe. And I actually eat more now than I ever did.

AmbushedByCake1 · 16/06/2022 14:47

Hey OP next time post in style and beauty people are nicer and more helpful.

garlicandsapphires · 16/06/2022 14:50

I had one session and it did make a difference, but I’ve since put the weight back on.

Its not self-righteousness its just common sense.....youre trying to convince me youre just skin and bones but have a massive belly.....maybe some resistance training would help to both burn the excess fat and build a bit of muscle tone everywhere else.....all Im saying is anything is possible....stop acting like a victim and pretending the only option you have is some kind of wacky surgery....just put in the work and you'll get the results you want....and try not to be so touchy when you get an honest answer even if its not what you want to hear...

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 16/06/2022 15:33

Thi is the treatment that Linda Evangelista had such a bad experience with, I think? Cryolipolysis.

I mulled it over and, when I realised the risk level and that I could end up worse, decided against it. Apparently, in about 10% of cases, it can leave you with a bigger 'area' of solid, fatty tissue for which nothing can be done.

swifty1974 · 16/06/2022 15:37

Have you actually heard yourself?
