Sky tv/freeview/fire stick? What do I want?

Hi,
in every effort to save money I’m looking at reviewing my Sky TV.

Currently paying £86 for broadband and tv. We only watch basic tv, ie bbc, itv. Best price Sky can do is £48 for broadband and basic tv.

So I’m looking at options.

I would like quick broadband to support a house of 6 (4 teenagers) and basic tv channels with the ability to record programmes.

I have been looking and I’m now even more confused about what would work!

I’ve looked at smart tv (don’t have one at present), firesticks, chromecasts, freeview but can’t seem to make sense of it.

So, what do you have and how much do you pay?

many thanks

We have Freesat and I have a firestick ( pay for prime £79/89 a year can't remember )

You might want a Freesat box that uses your satellite dish rather than Freeview unless your aerial reception is good.

Basically a broadband package and YouTube, is good enough for me on the tablet, then you have the apps for the basic channel apps to watch tv programmes for free.

We have Plus Net for broadband which I think is about £21 a month and then we have a smart tv with freeview (so no other monthly charges). The freeview is built into the smart tv, no additional box needed. We can’t record (but we don’t anyway - actually only dc regularly watch any tv). But I’d imagine you could now get smart tvs that record or you can buy a recordable freeview box (which is more expensive but still only one time purchase).

We live rurally and even with dc both streaming things and Dh and I wfh, it works fine.
