Possibly quite niche, but where do you keep spare chairs?

Once or twice a week we host a family dinner where we need 8 to 10 chairs and extend table. Most of the time we just need 4 and the table smaller. Wha5 do we do with the chairs….?

We have some set as decorative chairs in corners with a throw on them. Some go in the garage

dudsville · 15/06/2022 08:13

If it's that frequent I'd just keep the table set. My spare chairs are needed much less frequently and are in a shed.

Cantstopsneezing2022 · 15/06/2022 08:25

we have a couple in the spare bedroom and a couple in our bedrooms that we use to put clothes on.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 15/06/2022 08:29

Fold up chairs .. go into cupboard under stairs.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 15/06/2022 08:31

We have a set of fold up chairs in the loft, but they are used very infrequently.

GetThatHelmetOn · 15/06/2022 08:31

Exchange them for foldable chairs from IKEA and hide them in cupboards.

GetThatHelmetOn · 15/06/2022 08:32

Now, for using twice a week, would leave the table extended and the chairs out all the time.

BeastOfBODMAS · 15/06/2022 08:32

I have a couple of dining chairs used as side tables

Queenoftheashes · 15/06/2022 08:33

Garage and dotted around the house

TwoBlueFish · 15/06/2022 08:36

Mine are in my loft, but I only use them a couple of times a year. If I needed them weekly then I’d leave the table extended.

DaisyWaldron · 15/06/2022 08:38

We have a small house with very little storage space. We use chairs that have other purposes the rest of the time - office/desk chairs, garden chairs and an IKEA step stool.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 15/06/2022 08:50

We can seat 8 around our table. Anymore than that and we would just do 'bowl food' in the living room, or a bbq in the garden.
But we have fold up wooden IKEA chairs in the shed.

Flaunch · 15/06/2022 08:51

4 at the table permanently
4 in the loft
4 in the shed
4 in use as desk chairs

anyone would think I had a chair fetish 😂

stuntbubbles · 15/06/2022 08:52

That frequently I’d keep the table set up like that all the time. Unless you’re in a tiny flat and it’s a “cram everyone round the table and rejoice when they go home so you can shrink the table again” situation.

In which case: garage, loft, car boot, hanging on the wall – all for folding chairs. Or dotted round the place eg the chair in the bedroom for piles of clothes to accumulate.

Whatwouldnanado · 15/06/2022 09:11

I'd leave table extended if you have space and save the faff. Ours is set up for eight but plenty of space for extras. We use the piano stool and spares from the bedrooms where chairs are vital for clothes that don't need washing yet waiting to be worn again. That might be a whole other thread.

bellsbuss · 15/06/2022 09:23

We keep 14 chairs in our loft for things like Christmas and Easter lunch.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/06/2022 09:25

We’ve got 8 in the garage, no idea why, we never get them out

1990s · 15/06/2022 09:30

Stackable ikea stools, live in a corner behind a door.

PipeScatter · 15/06/2022 09:38

I don't have spare chairs. I have cat beds that sit in spare bedrooms that occasionally get used as dining chairs...!

RampantIvy · 15/06/2022 09:41

Cantstopsneezing2022 · 15/06/2022 08:25

we have a couple in the spare bedroom and a couple in our bedrooms that we use to put clothes on.

That's what we do. We have 6 dining chairs in total and keep 3 downstairs and the other three in bedrooms.

Favouritefruits · 15/06/2022 09:44

we keep some fold up emergency chairs in my husbands office, which is a loft room with lots of cubby holes. My mum and dad keep their emergency chairs under the stairs.

Cleothecat75 · 15/06/2022 09:50

Ours are kept in the loft. But seem to have been deposited in dds bedroom as we used them last week and need them at the weekend and no one Has bothered to put them back up. They don’t really fit with the decor though, so I wouldn’t want them out in the dining room all the time.

have you got space to leave the table extended if you are using them that often? I see extending the table and getting all the chairs as quite a chore, so wouldn’t want to do it twice a week.

TheCanyon · 15/06/2022 09:53

I want to get rid of ours as they're a total pain in the arse. Have 4 in our bedroom that blocks our wardrobe, 2 in one dcs room and 2 in another dcs room.

BadAtMaths2 · 15/06/2022 11:50

That's the thing, they don't match. In the dining room We have a Victorian dining table with 8 matching chairs - for Christmas and when we have guests who I don't want to see the chaos in the kitchen. And it just looks nice in the room.

In the kitchen we have 4 matching chairs that go nicely round the table where we mostly sit and eat. When have the family round we tend to eat in the kitchen and need 4 extra chairs - but not the Victorian ones and they don't work at that table (wrong height - quite delicate for the extended family use etc).

So the 4 extra - nice height and comfy for that table chairs are distributed awkwardly around the kitchen, in an upstairs room and (yet more from another table in an attic).

We have a ridiculous number of chairs....
