Where to live in South East for my budget?

Hello,

I am currently renting in Lewes and struggling to buy a property here. My maximum budget is £450,000 and for that I would like a period aged home (Edwardian or earlier), on-street parking preferably or nearby zone parking, 2 bedrooms, a house rather than a flat (I.e., terraced).

I'm not originally from the South East so don't know other areas very well and wondering where people might recommend to get more for my money that's within 30 mins of Lewes. DH works in Lewes and I work remotely.

We would like somewhere that has a nice feel to it with period homes, shops and ideally a train station. We have looked at Hassocks, Ditching and Hurstpierpoint which are lovely but again not affording much there and only Hassocks has a train station in walking distance.

Are you keen to stay in Sussex?

Sorry posted too soon. There are some possibilities a bit further along the coast.
