Thinking of moving to Somerset/Dorset area

We’ve fallen in love with the area around Sherborne, Sturminster Newton, and Shaftesbury. We really like Henstridge and especially Stalbridge.

We keep visiting the area, but would love any extra information. Schools aren’t important as our children have recently left home, although it’s possible they might return!

Anything information is welcome. Good or bad

What activities do you do?

I like crafts and walking. Husband likes walking and cycling (not fast, Lycra wearing, just pottering). I like reading and would want to do some volunteering in a library, charity shop or food bank. We both work from home, separately.

Sturminster better for slowish cycling as there is access to the trailway which goes to Blandford. Stalbridge is pretty dangerous for cycling IMO. Lovely walks in the area.
It's a nice area; I live in one of the villages mentioned and have lived in another so feel free to pm me for more information.

I live in Sherborne, so feel free to pm me too. One thing I would say is in my opinion driving is essential to live around here, we can’t afford run a car and the buses aren’t amazing so it can make life difficult, especially when it comes to shopping. We only have Waitrose and Sainsburys within walking distance and the high street shopping is fairly limited and on the expensive side so you will most likely need to travel elsewhere for anything like reasonably priced clothing, shoes and home wares etc. Not too sure on the library needing volunteers but there are around six charity shops all calling out for volunteers and a food bank too. All in all it’s a nice area to live, fairly quiet and very picturesque.
