School uniform - cotton boys shorts

Can anyone suggest where we could buy cotton boys school uniform shorts please? They need to be like proper uniform shorts but cotton, rather than the polyester/nylon that is sold in supermarkets etc. Not PE jersey shorts either.

All I can find online is ones by the Eczema society and Ecooutfitters which are pricey at £16-18+ each.

DS(7) doesn’t cope well in the heat and with the temps due to reach 30 deg this week where we live I wondered if you can get cotton shorts, rather than the stifling polyester ones which are standard.

It annoys me that girls can wear cotton gingham dresses/pantsuits but all boys can wear is polyester rubbish. With more extreme weather inevitable, and we are seeing this already with heatwaves most summers, why aren’t schools looking at uniform requirements and what they are made of. Why can’t boys like mine wear dark grey cotton jersey shorts (like PE shorts) if they wish when it’s really hot? The jersey is budget-friendly and likely to be more cool and comfortable in the heat. Our school just had a uniform survey and I added this comment but DH, who works in education, said it will be laughed out of the office 🙁

I agree with you about the cotton jersey shorts being an option for summer, but I suspect for schools it’s all about their image and jersey looks too casual.

John Lewis used to do them, worth a look?

Yes agree John Lewis used to do these which might be less pricey.

School uniforms can be so impractical and I agree that the Teflon/stain resistant/unbreathable sweaty shorts and trousers are fine for when it’s cooler but absolutely not when it’s hot. Agree with op thought that schools just want a smart uniform to impress outsiders with little thought for pupils’ comfort.

Could you get away with these? My son wears them on PE days - they sell them in navy and black.

My DS is autistic and sturdy and found the school shorts really uncomfortable and didn't fit him right (he is a funny shape!). It took some hunting but I found him plain dark grey jersey shorts with an elasticated waist on the H&M website. They were about £8 a pair, I will see if I can find a link (it was a couple of years ago, although I will be replacing them in the summer). I did think at the time that there was a gap in the market there for some enterprising person.

I know it's not the point but secondary school is much worse with no option to wear shorts at all and expensive compulsory polyester blazers.

I actually just found these in Next when Googling dark grey shorts.
