Hi all,

I have hired a village hall for my sons birthday and booked bouncy castle and face painting. It will be for two hours.

what else can I do to fill the time? I’ve thought about hiring an entertainer for an hour or would that be too much?

ideas welcome

I would suggest setting up a little crafts table. Get a Baker Ross set or something so they can have a bit of calmer time. Couple of foam footballs would go down a storm too.

Oh wow! I think just add in some party games and you’ll have easily have filled the time! Pass the parcel etc & some of those big parachute games with prizes. 2 hours will fly by. Happy birthday to your DC! X

Pass the parcel and musical statues. The old ones are still the best (and don't need much preparation or cost!)

2 hours will fly by.

I think that some more games might be needed.
How many children coming?
Treasure hunt - get some inexpensive small toys, like dinosaur figures and hide them around the room.
Something like musical statues? Have small prizes for winners.
Sleeping lions for when they all need to calm down.
Splat, wink murder, cat and mouse if you have some space to run around?

I agree- you need to run party games and something quiet. We always decorated a cake or a biscuit that they then ate later too.

Honestly I think you have enough and I'd just do a pass the parcel towards the end.

We went to a 5 year old's party at the weekend, easily the first hour was just them running round and playing on the bouncy castle. Then they sat down and had some party food which probably took another 20 to 30 mins so by the time you've sung happy birthday and cut the cake you'll be handing out party bags. With face painting and a quick pass the parcel you'll have plenty to do.

As well as games I would blow up a load of balloons and leave them around. Kids that age often like throwing/ running around with them. If there's lots left they can take them home after

wineymummy · 13/06/2022 10:01

Little craft table is all you need so they can have some down time from the bouncy castle. I wouldn't bother with games, getting a load of 5 year olds to sit down and do pass the parcel without arguing sounds horrific.
By the way we hired a castle recently and they were really strict about no face paints anywhere near it. Maybe double check that? You could swap for a temporary tattoo table, probably save a lot of money too.

Beamur · 13/06/2022 10:10

Every party I have ever been to with balloons has one kid in tears because they are afraid of them!
Pass the parcel is fraught with accusations of being unfair 😂
The bouncy castle might be enough, but keep some other games up your sleeves in case you need to take it down a notch.
Decorating a biscuit to either eat or take home is a genius quiet activity. You do need a quiet area for a bit of time out or if anyone gets a bit overwhelmed.

Bamboolampsandscandichairs · 13/06/2022 10:51

I was thinking of hiring an entertainer but they do things like pass the parcel which I can imagine would be a bit of disaster (one kid winning the prize and rest getting upset lol).

im thinking about making slime as their activity? Is that a bad idea lol

Don't make Slime. It will get all over the hall and you'll have to pay cleaning costs. Probably all over the bouncy castle too.

Bamboolampsandscandichairs · 13/06/2022 12:52

Very wise! There’s also a package for some cool science experiments which the might enjoy but would it be too much with bouncy castle and face painting?
