That you would still have to go to other shops for, or that you prefer the quality/taste etc of non Aldi items.
Currently shop in Tesco but it is beyond expensive lately!
Dip in and out of Aldi but find I still need to top up at Tesco.
We are pescatarian so no meat.
Does the fruit and veg last beyond 2 days?

@BurscoughBooths other varieties are not sold in standard U.K. supermarkets. Maybe in a specialist greengrocer or ethic store but Aldi will definitely be selling Cavendish!

MyCatIsInCharge · 13/06/2022 15:36

I do find their berries don’t last long at my store. But their higher welfare and free range meat offerings are much more extensive than a few years ago.

PermanentlyTired03 · 13/06/2022 15:42

I can't get gluten free at my Aldi. They had it briefly and stopped selling it ages ago

cannotfindanickname · 13/06/2022 15:44

No barista oatmilk. It's so great for just about everything else though!!

Chocolatepringles · 13/06/2022 15:49

I LOVE Aldi products and the staff are so friendly but unfortunstely they do not sell:

Dry shampoo
Coffee whitener
Freshly baked products

Lidl is better for all of these.

ThisTastesSalty · 13/06/2022 15:50

Dairy free fromage frais etc
Skips
Alpro drink
Thats off top of my head.

I do 80% in aldi.
Rest in tesco. The 20 %in tesco can be as expensive as the aldi 80 %

Last week i did tesco as i couldn't be bothered to drive to go to aldi.

Going off at a tangent here but I believe that many people don't realise that you're not supposed to pack at the till.
You're supposed to chuck back into the trolley and pack, at your leisure and to your preference, at the long shelf at the front of the store.

I use a couple of Gorilla tubs , put them in the trolley and chuck everything into them at the till then put them in my boot.

I've been led to believe that checkout staff were monitored for the number of items they scanned.

As to not using salt in a dishwasher, we had to buy a new dishwasher to replace one that we'd only had for a few years. It was caked in limescale , despite regular cleaning.
We live in a very hard water area and salt is a must.
I'd stupidly believed that my dishwasher tablets were all-in-one.
They are , but not enough salt for where I live.

They don’t sell dishwasher salt or rinse aid but do sell dishwasher tablets, I find it a bit odd as you need all 3.

I get my dishwasher salt & rinse aid in Lidl. Also find it strange that Aldi don't sell them!

Same here

DD is coeliac

A lot of their normal products are gluten free (sausages, burgers, etc) as they seem to be using rice or potato flour instead of wheat flour, but they stopped selling stuff like GF pasta, pizza, bread, etc ages ago now.

Most supermarkets seem to have massively reduced their GF ranges recently

LynneBenfield · 13/06/2022 17:26

@WishILivedInThrushGreen , my local ALDI has a massive sign over the shelf saying “Packing shelf”

Fizbosshoes · 13/06/2022 17:29

I don't know if it's a rule about packing, I could probably cope with one carrier bag of stuff but for me it's only worth going if I'm going to do a big shop. I've only managed to keep up with the scanners once, and that was after I'd had a red bull (not for the specific purpose if supermarket packing!)

What does everything think of the fresh and frozen fish at Aldi?

ferneytorro · 13/06/2022 17:54

Crikey it really is store dependant. One person mentioned no glasses wipes, you could build a replica of the Great Wall of China with the boxes and boxes they have in ours.

I love the checkout, I have no issue with throwing my food (not eggs ) into my trolley, in fact I find it very therapeutic.

So does mine but nobody takes any notice at my local store , people are still, slavishly sorting out what goes into which bag and then spend forever rummaging in handbags and purses looking for the right card (!) to pay with.

As I said, I don’t rate the fresh/chiller cabinet salmon but like the mussels (not strictly fish, I know). Have also had the cod loins from the chiller and liked them.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/06/2022 19:17

Decent deli meat - the stuff I bought in Aldi was awful. Also couldn't get turkey mince of turkey meatballs.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/06/2022 19:20

Sainsburys price match so much stuff to Aldi now that I prefer going there and buying everything I want under one roof.

Blimeyherewegoagain · 13/06/2022 20:02

Love the fresh salmon in Aldi- the half side is a regular purchase for us.
Love the selection of deli meat also. Tend to avoid the British stuff and go for the continental things which are much nicer.

daybyday247 · 13/06/2022 20:07

Fresh pineapple juice, laundry cleanser, dairy free spread (afaik), dish brushes

RosesAndHellebores · 13/06/2022 20:11

Have only been once but assume:

Bath Olivers
Langue du chat biscuits
Twinings tea
Quail eggs
Pink himalayan salt
Fine Scottish oak smoked salmon
Truffle oil
Vanilla pods
Roasted artichoke hearts
Di ceccco dried pasta
Smoked paprika

You know that sort of stuff Grin

If it were on the other side of the bypass and the checkouts weren't so ergonomically unfriendly for my crumbling spine, I'd give it another go. Loved the middle aisle and some of the Germanic things that marked my childhood. The Austrian potatoe, cheese and bacon bake was absolutely vile though. Wiener schnitzel anyone?

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 13/06/2022 20:16

It does seem like Aldi focuses on certain products at regional level.

Whilst that can make a full shop , for many folk, tricky to do, it might be a way of Aldi's to prevent waste.

I would imagine that fresh salmon, couscous and avocados might not be as popular in some areas as they are in others.

123Callie · 13/06/2022 20:24

My 2 nearest ones don’t sell cous cous or risotto rice but there’s always loads of things I need to get elsewhere. I do 1 week Aldi, 1 week Sainsburys and keep a running list for both on my phone.

Blimeyherewegoagain · 13/06/2022 20:42

I just use basmati for my risotto and it still comes out ok!

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 13/06/2022 20:54

Their Picpoul de Pinet is nicer than any other I've ever tried.

lassof · 13/06/2022 20:56
