That you would still have to go to other shops for, or that you prefer the quality/taste etc of non Aldi items.
Currently shop in Tesco but it is beyond expensive lately!
Dip in and out of Aldi but find I still need to top up at Tesco.
We are pescatarian so no meat.
Does the fruit and veg last beyond 2 days?

Class

(I shop at Aldi, but come on, it’s a bit grim 😉)

I'll be honest...... my local Asda is worse........

SummerLobelia · 13/06/2022 10:53

I think it really is store dependant. We have never had an issue with fruit and veg at our Aldi. Nor meat, although I am going to try and start buying meat from our village butcher more regularly because I have become a bit lazy in my shopping and really want to support them more.

When branded Heinz beans or Heinz tomato sauce are in stock I do tend to buy up a bit. But otherwise I really like the lack of 300 types of beans etc. I am hopeful that our tinned sweetcorn stays though as that is a total staple for us!

Comefromaway · 13/06/2022 10:55

Dairylea Dunkers. Autistic ds doesn't like the Aldi or Lidl branded ones

On the other hand he will ONLY eat Lidl's own brand pasta Snack Shots.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 13/06/2022 10:58

Gluten free bread - I do an £80 shop at Aldi and a £20 shop at Tesco

DwightShrutesYFronts · 13/06/2022 11:19

Breadcrumbs. I wish they'd do breadcrumbs but apparently only Lidl can produce a generous box of them for around £1. And their supplements range is rubbish compared to Lidl. Also big tubs of decent yoghurt i.e. not bloody Skyr and not bloody fat free.

Steamed salmon fillets (they only have smoked - much better price but with sodium)
Low sugar & salt baked beans
Good quality 0% plain yogurt (false economy to buy from Aldi as it’s too watery - have to get the 0% Greek instead or go to Tesco’s).
Rooibos tea.
Glasses wipes

Glasses wipes- often have big boxes in so I only buy about every 6 months.

Rooibos- yep, they do in our one

Steamed salmon- one of my favorites, they do a plain steamed one, lemon and parsley or sweet chili.

HighSea · 13/06/2022 11:22

They don’t sell dishwasher salt or rinse aid but do sell dishwasher tablets, I find it a bit odd as you need all 3.

Crikeyalmighty · 13/06/2022 11:25

I'm a bit like @Desert76 I can see it has lots of cheap stuff and if I had kids at home wanting a constantly full fridge and cupboard of stuff they just grab, I would use it more ,but as I no longer have kids at home , I would rather plan better and stick to M&S and Waitrose (and make good use of yellow sticker and freezer) with the odd trip to Aldi to stick the stuff I do actually quite like.

Crikeyalmighty · 13/06/2022 11:27

If you like Aldi,We do have a terrific superstore size one on outskirts of Windsor with a big car park and it's quite smart too

gamerchick · 13/06/2022 11:27

I've also never had any problems with their fruit and veg and I've been shopping in Aldi since long before it was socially acceptable to do so

Me as well. It's getting to be a properly irritating place to shop due to the 4x4 crowd and their sodden browsing. Then packing at the till. Just hurry the fuck up already.

I've never had an issue with fruit and veg but fruit and veg isn't supposed to last ages

Ruralbliss · 13/06/2022 11:35

Tofu, oven cleaner, 1kg tubs of crunchy peanut butter, mirin and rice wine vinegar.

MissDollyMix · 13/06/2022 11:38

Can usually do a good shop at Aldi but every now and then I need to stock up at Tesco... Mostly it's brands we can't get - Pukka Teas and Dorito crisps. Agree with others that I've never found dishwasher rinse aid or salt or a decent selection of dried herbs and spices. There's also a few things that I don't like at Aldi - most of their cleaning products smell rank, their laundry powder doesn't get on with my machine (I love Tesco own-brand washing powder), their frozen pizzas are revolting and DH doesn't like Aldi coffee....

Mossstitch · 13/06/2022 11:56

@HighSea I've had dishwashers for at least 30 years and only ever used tablets, I just don't use rinse aid or salt and current one is 10 years old and still going strong👍

One thing I don't like is their laundry stuff, although occasionally they have non bio persil liquid. Even their non bio has very strong perfume and flares up my allergies.

I have a son who is very loyal to Kelloggs but after reading a recent comparison which rated aldis cornflakes high at 54p I made him try them...... Verdict 'not bad actually' 🤑 that's at least £2 a week saved the volume he eats!!

Their lungo coffee pods have saved me hundreds with my coffee habit😌

I've only ever put dishwasher tablets in my dishwasher!!

NippyWoowoo · 13/06/2022 12:00

I'm lactose intolerant but still like dairy products, so I still need to go elsewhere for lactofree milk, cheese, cream and yogurt. Waitrose, M&S and Sainsburys are decent in supplying one to all of the above, depending which shop you go to.

UnbeatenMum · 13/06/2022 12:00

DD2 with Autism eats a lot of Fridge raiders but doesn't like the Aldi version. I also can't get sensitive laundry liquid like Surcare for her Eczema. Or GF bread or Tassimo pods. Otherwise pretty much everything.

Comefromaway · 13/06/2022 12:19

Aldi dishwasher tablet incorporate rinse aid but you are meant to put dishwasher salt in every so often depending how hard your water is. But I get stuff like that from B & M.

GreatCuppa · 13/06/2022 12:47

Vegan ranges must vary then. I’ve just come back from Lidl, and apart from the much cheaper oat milk, they had a couple of yoghurts and that was it.

Rosehugger · 13/06/2022 12:51

DH gets Hula Hoops and things like Rinse Aid, dishwasher cleaner from Sainsbury's/Tesco and the pet food from Pets at Home. Occasionally herbs and spices they don't have, or anything they've randomly run out of that week. Pretty much everything else from Aldi.

A lot of toiletries and dishwasher liquid I bulk buy from Amazon.

daffodilandtulip · 13/06/2022 12:54

I always hear people saying fruit goes off quicker but it must be regional. If I buy grapes from our Asda, I'm lucky if they aren't already mouldy, let alone after a couple of days. Aldi ones are crispier and tastier. Same for apples, bananas etc.

FuckingHateRats · 13/06/2022 12:55

It really annoys me that I can't buy risotto rice at Aldi.

megletthesecond · 13/06/2022 13:01

Yes! No risotto rice. I was in a right huff the day I discovered that. I assumed it was a basic product.

IncessantNameChanger · 13/06/2022 07:47

No super noodles or anything like them. Not enough Asian ingredients generally. I can most of what I need but not everything

I've a cupboard full of Aldi Supernoodles. & normal noodles.
Ask your local one why they don't stock them!

Yes to some niche stuff - they don't
As with some cleaning products

But their dishwasher tabs are the best!

I could never find gluten free pasta in ours - most annoying.

Plus their herbs and spices are limited. I find all of their store cupboard items limited. That might just be our store though.

I like their fresh meat, however.

It really annoys me that I can't buy risotto rice at Aldi.

I found it once in that end of aisle section where they sometimes have random items.
