We're thinking of spending a week in August up there. No kids, just me, hubby and a dog that doesn't need very much for walks. It would be nice if it's fairly close to countryside but not too remote from civilisation. Any ideas please?

Hmm. Marsden Holmfirth or Saddleworth

UrsulaPandress · 12/06/2022 18:52

Saddleworth is great for walks. Canal. Old railway line. Dovestones.

Castleton, Hope, Edale. We have stayed in Hope and Edale and are basing ourselves in Castleton this year.

Lots of awesome walking nearby and restaurants and pubs nearby for the evening.

Love the High Peak area.

@UrsulaPandress - wonderful! thanks for those. Marsden looks lovely. I'll look into all these you've said.

I'm from the next village to marsden and there isn't much to do there x

Buxton - my family live there. Lots of rural walks and scenery but also a small town with various attractions as well as easy links to Bakewell, Matlock etc

All of these 👆 There's not much in Hope, Hathersage and Castleton with regards to shops, but the scenery is lovely and there's some great walks and you're within easy driving distance of places like Chatsworth, Bakewell, Haddon Hall, Matlock etc.

We stayed in between Matlock Bath and Matlock, at High Tor. Good base, walking distance to restaurants / pubs, Heights of Abraham. Really enjoyed it, good base to go out from, didn't think much of Bakewell or Buxton.

Ashbourne. Depending on your budget take a look at Callow Hall. Amazing place but not cheap.

I’ve stayed at this campsite before, near Bakewell and Monsal Trail, not too far from Castletown either www.pitchup.com/campsites/England/Central/Derbyshire/wardlow/five_acres_farm_campsite/#csdetail
It’s quite basic but has llamas 😁
