Do You Drink Milk?

I have never liked milk on it’s own - think it probably started with those little glass bottles we used to be given in school where often the milk was warm. Milkshake is fine & I have milk on cereal & in tea.

Yes. I love it. My village has one of those on the farm milk stations with proper rich and creamy was in a cow yesterday milk. I can drink that by the mug full. Had to be straight from the fridge though.

Funnily enough though, I don't like cream by itself (so won't have it on a pudding or with strawberries or anything like that) and can't stand cheese.

restedbutexhausted · 12/06/2022 12:26

Nope. I think it's disgusting. I like most milk products though, with the exception of cream (it just doesn't taste of anything! I'd rather have a nice scoop of ice cream with dessert than whipped or double cream).

I'm an absolute fiend for cheese, and plain yoghurt is always in my fridge.

Urgh no, I’ve never really liked it and those little bottles of warm milk at primary school still make me gag if I think about it! My asthma and eczema are also much better since i switched to non dairy milks. I still wouldn’t drink them as just milk though, I don’t like drinking thick liquids.

Love it.

GreenWhiteViolet · 12/06/2022 12:57

No. At one point in my childhood I was made to drink a big glass of milk every day because it was 'good for me'. Even though I thought it was disgusting. I had no deficiencies or health conditions that might have explained this.

I eventually made enough fuss that I was allowed to put milkshake powder in it, which helped a bit, but I still didn't like it.

Now I use soya milk for everything.

RaspberryChouxBuns · 12/06/2022 13:04

Used to love drinking pints of fresh cold milk. Then I developed a lactose intolerance and that soon saw off that particular habit 😔

glamourousindierockandroll · 12/06/2022 13:04

Yes, i really like it. Never had any at school so milk to me is only ever chilled and delicious!

stargirl1701 · 12/06/2022 13:13

Love milk. We have non-homogenised whole milk in glass. Love that creamy top!

Yes the farm down the road gives you a big glass bottle to keep then you can just got to the milk station with your token and fill it up. Tastes great.

Thanks, I can't remember if I've sampled those two so might give them a whirl but I've never had any success. There's just something not right about most of the alternatives.

What's the nearest match for drinking cold out of the fridge? That isn't 'creamy'?

No idea @Sparklingbrook ! Sorry. I’ve never experienced that joy.

Sunnytwobridges · 12/06/2022 14:12

I love an ice cold glass of milk with a slice of cake or pie. Yummy 😋

This - I can drink cold milk now but never ever do. Made me feel sick at school

Oldraver · 12/06/2022 14:24

Yes I love it, but it doesn't agree with me

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/06/2022 15:07

No. Wish I could, though - I really liked ice cold milk and cream, full fat, Jersey, evaporated, unsweetened condensed, clotted or UHT (different flavour - it reminds me of caramel, which I also like). Much as I love ewes' and goats' milk cheeses (and yes, goats' cheese does taste how goats smell - that's why they taste so nice), I can't say the same for their milk.

Oat milk is out of the question due to their being made of oats (celiac), almond and other nut milk is bitter and drying, rice milk tastes of pure sugar, hemp, pea and other milk substitutes are just horrible and grainy/floury if they're even actually gluten free and not cross contaminated and they stopped selling the fresh/chilled soya milk in the supermarket that tasted clean and fresh like real milk about 5 years ago.

Even the dairy free protein shakes I have because I don't do food before lunchtime, which is probably a psychological hang up as a result of my mother refusing to accept the possibility of celiac and forcing me to have wheat cereals with milk, porridge with milk or toast every morning - with the result that the part of my gut that produces lactase was damaged - taste like crap.

I still miss the stuff.

BeReet · 12/06/2022 15:30

No, I don't. I never have it in tea and coffee, don't eat cereal or porridge and thought of drinking a glass of it turns my stomach. I find the smell of milk very unpleasant

KohlaParasaurus · 12/06/2022 15:36

Not as an actual drink in a glass, though I have milk on my cereal and use it to make puddings.

felineweird · 12/06/2022 16:54

Agree with OP. Fine in tea and on cereal but absolutely disgusting on its own

InFiveMins · 12/06/2022 17:37

I love milk. Having a pint of whole milk is probably my favourite treat!!

fishingpaintings · 12/06/2022 17:58

It gives me awful stomach ache. So now it's oat or coconut milk or nothing. Tbh I don't really miss it, it's only if I have it 'straight ish' (Five Guys milkshakes, I'm looking at you) that I struggle.
