Do You Drink Milk?

I have never liked milk on it’s own - think it probably started with those little glass bottles we used to be given in school where often the milk was warm. Milkshake is fine & I have milk on cereal & in tea.

I hated milk when I was young and have only just realised that it was unpasteurised milk, which to me tasted vaguely of cow.
During lockdown we bought local unpasteurised milk, and there it was again.
So I don't drink it, have some semi skimmed in tea, and have yogurt more than any other dairy product.

In the years when we had goats, I always felt that their milk tasted vaguely of goat too, and to this day can never touch goat's cheese again.

I’m not certain about plant “milks” in terms of nutritional value or if they're a highly processed food. I have made my own oat milk in the past for a veggie friend, and it was alright. I suppose.

Giggorata · 12/06/2022 10:59

All right, for heaven's sake. 🙄

TheVolturi · 12/06/2022 11:02

No it's nasty and it's not actually good for us!

Only soya milk and it has to be icy cold.

Camomila · 12/06/2022 11:07

Sometimes I have a glass of cold milk and a nutella sandwich along with the DC. It's only nice if it's really cold though.

TheRoadToRuin · 12/06/2022 11:10

I wish I had drunk far more milk and eaten more dairy when I was young as I now have osteoporosis.
I can tolerate skimmed milk better than semi or whole and it does have marginally more calcium.

Sparklingbrook · 12/06/2022 11:10

I agree that if you drink neat milk it has to be icy cold.

lissie123 · 12/06/2022 11:11

Love milk but only full fat. Also love cream and butter. But also don’t mind oat milk as an alternative as long as it’s not got sunflower oil in it.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/06/2022 11:18

I buy a pint of whole milk as a meal replacement or drink a glass if I’m feeling stressed (natural calming effect).
Apart from that I get 3 liters a week of SS which does other people’s breakfasts and cooking.

Daenerys77 · 12/06/2022 11:36

Yes, I love a glass of milk cold from the fridge. Full fat is best for drinking on its own but semi-skimmed is also palatable. I have tried plant 'milks' but they really don't taste right.

TabithaTittlemouse · 12/06/2022 11:40

If you are referring to cows milk then nope.

Sparklingbrook · 12/06/2022 11:50

I have asked many times if there's any nice dairy alternatives and I've tried sooo many but absolutely nothing matches up. Some have very weird aftertaste and seem to coat your mouth.

TabithaTittlemouse · 12/06/2022 11:52

@Sparklingbrook one cup is good in tea. Oatly barista for coffee.

Twizbe · 12/06/2022 11:56

She I was a kid I used to. I LOVED milk and drank about a pint a day. I was a very strange 80s kid in that I hated squash and would only drink water and milk.

However in my 30s I went dairy free and my son is allergic to milk. Since then I can't drink it at all, it makes me feel really sick :(

Gigia · 12/06/2022 11:57

No I don't drink it at all or have it on my cereal, always hated it

Chaoslatte · 12/06/2022 11:58

No, I don’t like it and haven’t had it since I was an infant. I’m too young to have been given it at school and I’ve never had it on cereal, in hot drinks etc. DP has it though.

Jins · 12/06/2022 11:58

I haven’t had milk since I was a baby. The only dairy product I can tolerate is Cheese.

I’m rather sensitive to butyric acid so milk tastes of vomit. Cream is worse 🤮

stripesorspotsorwhat · 12/06/2022 12:00

I too was put off milk by those warm bottles at school. Yuk.

Has to be semi-skimmed and ice cold straight out of the fridge.

AgentProvocateur · 12/06/2022 12:00

No, none of us do. I don’t have milk in the house. Luckily I live very near a supermarket, so if someone pops round unexpectedly for tea/coffee I can buy some. I do have a pret flat white every day, so I get my calcium that way.

Arnaquer · 12/06/2022 12:01

Just a little bit in tea and coffee but could never drink it on its own s a drink. Make me nauseous

MulberryBush700 · 12/06/2022 12:02

I have always loved it.

Jam on toast with a cold glass of milk is everything! Love to drink it whilst having chocolate too. Or just on its own when I'm a bit peckish. Yum!

I also drink it sometimes to sooth a cough, warmed up with some honey in it 😋😋

SleepyDoggo · 12/06/2022 12:03

Cows milk, no. I don’t understand humans drinking it. I drink a glass of oat ‘milk’ every day and have it in tea as well.

JaninaDuszejko · 12/06/2022 12:06

Well yes, I grew up on a farm and cows smell gorgeous and milky (or more accurately milk smells of cow) and goats cheese absolutely smells of goats. I love them all of course. I have a glass of cold milk every day as part of my breakfast. I'm very fussy about milk going off though and get annoyed at DH and DM who will happily leave milk sitting out in full sun for ages 🤮.

GreendaleFive · 12/06/2022 12:10

Yes. Not as much as I used to - tends to just be a small glass now and then, plus a splash in tea.

But only full-fat. Can't be doing with semi-skimmed or skimmed milk.

I have a lot of dairy in general (and loads of eggs), which does make me feel guilty sometimes as I do think a vegan diet would be more ethical (I'm a life-long vegetarian). However, I have a relatively restricted diet due to being autistic and have veered towards an eating disorder several times (and become underweight a couple of times) so I don't dare cut out my main source of calories!

Thanks, I can't remember if I've sampled those two so might give them a whirl but I've never had any success. There's just something not right about most of the alternatives.

What's the nearest match for drinking cold out of the fridge? That isn't 'creamy'?
