Just met the most annoying shopper

avocadodi · 11/06/2022 19:27

Just got the actual rage from a shopper in our local supermarket.
Number 1. Huge queue of 7 shoppers. They called on the tannoy that they were opening a new till and said shopper (who was not even in huge queue) RAN at top speed down an aisle to join the new till queue.
Number 2. She parked her trolley in the queue and then decided she hadn't actually finished her shopping, so left her trolley in the queue with a few bits on the conveyor belt while she spent 10 minutes finishing her shop meaning no-one else could use that till.
Number 3. As we were packing our car up (in a normal space with our 3 year old as they were the only spaces available) she started unloading her shopping into a car in a parent and child space when she did not even have a child.

No 1 wouldn't bother me, it's every man for himself when a new till opens.

No 2 would have me huffing and tutting.

No 3 wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

TulipCat · 11/06/2022 19:59

Meh. Life is full of minor irritants and people whose behaviour you can't change. Sail on with your life in serenity!

Isaidnoalready · 11/06/2022 19:59

People parking there trolly then continuing to shop irritate me we all get a in queue we all have small shops woman at the front said hang on my daughters just grabbed something I've forgot apparently she forgot half the shop

Heavy breathing man he has two items I have a trolly full on the conveyor belt he stands behind me "sighs" "huffs" sighs again prays to Jesus (he was saying oh lord a lot) eventually I snap out of my daydream (of winning the lottery and paying someone to shop for me) and say you can go first but he could have asked instead of sucking up all the air 🤣

SlatsandFlaps · 11/06/2022 20:01

You have no idea if she had a blue badge and if so, she's fully entitled to park in parent & child if no disabled spots available

limitedperiodonly · 11/06/2022 20:03

@avocadodi I'll stick up for you. Of course it's bloody annoying. I don't know what gets into some people on Mumsnet sometimes. Just being contrary for the sake of it.

No one minds people saying: "Sorry. I've forgotten the cornflakes. I'll be quick." It's when they bugger off without a word and come back ages later with armfuls of stuff like someone did to me the other week. Luckily I managed to tell the checkout woman not to put her shopping through before mine in time. If not we'd have all been waiting while this woman farted about. As my things went through she came back and had the cheek to say: "I think I was next."

RedRobyn2021 · 11/06/2022 20:07

All of these things are annoying

But try and put yourself in their shoes

And ultimately, you're only hurting yourself by being cross. Don't let it ruin your evening.

And by the way I know I sound super preachy, but that's only because I would struggle with not being cross at this kind of stuff

IncessantNameChanger · 11/06/2022 20:12

It wouldn’t give me the rage unless I had direct contact like someone in front of me leaving the queue and I had loaded my stuff onto belt or parked in a disabled bay in a white transit van and wearing trades person work clothes ( although I’m sure some builders do have blue badges, they don’t put one on the dash).

id eye-roll and maybe tut to myself and judge silently. I do have a disabled child so I was telling someone the positives of that is I have an higher threshold of what I stress over. My headspace is a valuable asset so I only get stressed if you cross my kids.

anyway, shopping on a Saturday, in my books means your asking for the fruitcakes and dithering, angry, mass crowds and all that stress.

if she’d done that in my nearest Aldi she would be risking a mob backlash 😂

Georgeskitchen · 11/06/2022 20:22

Having been a checkout supervisor previously I would have stepped in and refilled the trolley and pushed it out of the way. Then the customer could rejoin the queue like everyone else

Was you?

Dear lord.

Did you read the post, and decide hmmm I can be way more of an asshole than that person! If so, well done, you managed it!

Irridescantshimmmer · 11/06/2022 20:39

Dizzy as a box of frogs!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 11/06/2022 20:42

This would annoy me. I'm not sure why you're getting all these salty responses. Nothing in the world pisses me off more than un-selfaware people in public.

Yes, me too (or 'I too' for the grammar police upthread).

I love how many people seem to confuse a topic actually labelled 'Chat' on a general online forum with a UN summit or emergency COBRA meeting. If you choose to click on a thread with a clear title as to what it's about, only to berate the OP for inviting discussion on what you consider a 'trivial' topic but which nevertheless matters to them (and others who respond with interest), I don't think it's the OP making odd choices as to how they spend their time!

AyeUpMeDuck · 11/06/2022 20:45

I'd be plotting their demise in my mind..

Especially the pissants that leave their trolley and go and do more.shopping. I hate that. They get all pussy with me whey I use the "Next Customer" spacer.thingy to drag all their shopping back and put mine before theirs.

AyeUpMeDuck · 11/06/2022 20:46

*They get all pussy with me whey

Should say..
They get all pissy with me when..

I blame the phone..

worraliberty · 11/06/2022 20:48

It's annoying that's for sure.

I'm really struggling to believe though, that the cashier sat there for 10 whole minutes, rather than move the shopping as they always tend to do when this happens.

Shrekroll · 11/06/2022 20:50

I was so hoping this thread was going to be about the man who bought all 10 reduced chickens 😆

worraliberty · 11/06/2022 20:51

@Shrekroll , that's about 2 years worth of Mumsnet dinners 😲

girlmom21 · 11/06/2022 20:55

You didn't meet her because you didn't confront her and tell her she was a massive twat, presumably. You should have. She was. Who behaves like that?! Especially on Saturday.

It sounds like it was Aldi or Lidl so I'm very surprised they didn't just remove her shopping from the conveyor.

avocadodi · 11/06/2022 20:57

In all fairness it was around 5 minutes before a shop assistant actually jumped on the till. They had to call for someone to open till 4 on the tannoy a few times before anyone came to open it.
And then he sat for 5 minutes waiting for the lady to return.
One man only had one item, so he squeezed past the trolley and handed it to the shop assistant to scan, but the rest of the queue had trolleys so couldn't put their stuff on the belt to be scanned as woman's trolley and food were in the way.

avocadodi · 11/06/2022 20:59

I made passive aggressive comments very loudly. My husband looked on awkwardly (he doesn't do confrontation) and the woman didn't look bothered.

Yeah, this.
I sometimes worry that I'm too self aware, as I cannot imagine doing this. Just the thought of inconveniencing people like that would make me cringe with embarrassment. I'd be standing there wishing I had the balls to move all her stuff out the way, but not wanting to cause a scene.
