Just find it so depressing

Where would you like them to shop then?

Squiff70 · 11/06/2022 11:52

High street clothing retailers are closing all the time. I live near a big shopping centre and the last fashion store remaining there is about to close, and that is a Next store.

What are people meant to do if they can't buy clothes on the high street? Not everyone has cars to go to the big out-of-town retail centres. Our local bus service doesn't even go near our nearest OoT retail park any more either so if I don't buy clothes in supermarkets, it has to be online!

You can't blame the public. This is entirely down to government mismanagement!

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 11/06/2022 12:25

Even our local charity shops are closing

The better charity shops are a 3 bus ride away or 30 min by car

So what do you want people to do Op? You haven't said....

Horsemad · 11/06/2022 12:31

Agree OP. 🤬

crappycheapyviscoserubbish · 11/06/2022 12:36

Oh god I don't have a solution... but I am just so depressed About it

All the social media crap doesn't help

People loooking for matching clothes like on Instagram but don't want to spend too much etc so where can they go ?

I don't watch it myself but there's been a banner on eBay all week about the 'Love Island' cast wearing all second hand clothes to promote more ethical fashion - this is a show which might influence the fashion conscious - does that cheer you up, OP?

Reluctantadult · 11/06/2022 12:41

It is depressing. I get everything second hand from vinted, but from the sheer amount on there its clear its just super saturated.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/06/2022 12:42

The fact that Love Island dumped boohoo for eBay is a small step in the right direction

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 11/06/2022 12:47

Love island contestants are not all wearing stuff from eBay!!

There's a small closet available to then with a few items from eBay in it

No idea where they get their main items of clothing from or wether they even touch the eBay stuff

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 11/06/2022 12:48

I buy from SHEIN. It’s the only option for larger sizes if you have a smaller budget.

I can’t see how SHEIN is any more unethical than similar quality stores like Next or New Look. It’s all unethical shite. SHEIN is just a bigger store.

lickenchugget · 11/06/2022 12:49

What’s it got to do with you, OP? People can buy what they want.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 11/06/2022 12:52

Vintned is Full of shein items Grin I just had a quick look and the prices!!!

Then there's delivery costs....and the extra delivery vans on the road driving round delivering one pair of shorts/top at a time

I suppose with shein you can buy 5-10?items in one delivery

MrsDThomas · 11/06/2022 13:29

If you don’t like it, get off SM

MissyCooperismyShero · 11/06/2022 14:22

Don't blame you op. I hate the unsustainability of it all and honestly just the clutter. We need to buy less. And less often. Charity shop one in one out if we fancy a change.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 11/06/2022 14:41

We all just need to buy less. Get back to wearing fewer items that are higher quality.

But I'm a hipócrita bc I hate all my clothes

Ohtoberoavingagain · 11/06/2022 14:59

I’m with you, OP, not just clothes but the sheer amount of stuff that’s for sale/ bought. I won’t buy anything made in China unless it’s second hand and I really need it. Not bought any new clothes or shoes this year, everything is charity shop, EBay or Vinted. Only bought- new furniture in my house are the beds.
Also can’t understand people who don’t check where their products are coming from.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 11/06/2022 15:04

I totally get you, OP. It's super depressing, especially when this tat is worn only once or twice.

I feel so sorry for the poor people and children who get paid practically nothing to stitch it all together for us.

I'm trying to buy all second hand now and we are stocking up on wool for the winter. But then I have no social life and nothing particularly to dress up for, so it's easier for me.
