Persuade me to go to Mallorca again.

we are considering Mallorca in September mostly because it’s one of the few direct flights from our local airport. Couple in their 50s.

I loved it when we went before, port soller and Palma. And I’ve been to Palma 3 times. But just can’t get quite enthused about it again. We like hill walking, cycling, somewhere to stay with a choice of places to walk to and eat. Don’t mind hiring a car. Where on Mallorca should we go.

Port Pollenca? You can get to Cala san Vincenc from there too which is beautiful.

Port de Pollensa sounds perfect for you.

Walks through the hills all around, bike hire shops and fantastic restaurants. Sounds ideal for your requirements.

Pollensa. You can get to the port easily but it's very relaxed, quiet and beautiful. Perfect with a car

Another vote for Puerto Pollensa if you want to be right on the beach, we don't like re-visiting places and it's the only place we've ever gone back to 3 times

It really is lovely

Estellencs is lovely …and Cala Fornells .
Puerto Soller is also a favourite of mine .
I lived over there for years so I am biased…. But you can always have a great time in Majorca..

Justsaying22 · 11/06/2022 09:54

Definitely puerto pollensa. I’ve been 4 times now. A lot of people go there for cycling holidays. There are lovely restaurants along the promenade. It’s very scenic with mountains in the background. The beach is nice and the old town a short bus ride away is lovely too.

Port Andratx is lovely and not too touristy. Beautiful scenery and plenty of hills plus great food.

Hippywannabe · 11/06/2022 10:02

Sa Como and stay at the Hipphotels Mediterraneo adults only (not the sister hotel for families).
We went in April and will definitely return.

We are going here in July.
Late 50's.
45 minutes from Palma airport.

Pandaorlion · 11/06/2022 10:03

Port de Soller is one of my favourite places but I think you'd like Porter Pollensa.

We tend to do for four days as a friend has an apartment there, but if you go for longer could you also visit Menorca on the ferry for a couple of days?

ShirleyPhallus · 11/06/2022 10:03

Is there any chance Madeira also goes from your airport? It is really beautiful and the hill walking is incredible there

Alexandra2001 · 11/06/2022 10:12

Pollensa or the Port, we go there every year, been 8 x and never get bored, if you can afford a hire car (v expensive atm) then you can take the bikes anywhere and cycle or walk, we did some great walks from Bunyola, Alaro and Lluc.
Had a fantastic cycle ride to Santauri de Cura this year and also to the free to use Velodrome at Sineau with the POBCC (Pollensa old boys cycling club, on FB)

Lots of cheaper and better restaurants in some of the back streets away from the sea front.

Wow. That looks a bit special.

We are going to Puerto Pollenca in September. Hiring a car at the airport and have an apartment rented through VRBO. Also a couple in our 50s, although we will have our DS and his partner with us for the first weekend. Not been before though so I'm hoping it's nice! We enjoy mooching around, walks by the sea, meals out, relaxing on our balcony (sea view essential) and will use the car to see more of the island . You are probably more active than us!

shinynewapple22 · 11/06/2022 10:24

Until this year I hadn't been to Mallorca since an 18-30s holiday in the 1980s which was pretty awful. We went for a long weekend to Palma earlier this year and really enjoyed that .

Justkoko · 11/06/2022 10:25

My first thought was Port de Pollenca. Looks like I'm not alone! It's a beautiful place.

RunnerDown · 11/06/2022 10:33

IMO if you are not fussed about the beach , Pollensa village is much nicer than Puerta Pollensa. Lots of restaurants, nice shops and narrow winding streets. No nightlife The port always seems more touristy to me and the food caters more to British tourists. It really depends what you enjoy though. The 2 places are only 5 minutes drive apart but Pollensa old town doesn’t look like much from the main road so I suspect lots of folk don’t ever visit it.
I love Palma too .
We have flown to Girona in the past too. It’s really lovely to wander round and the food is amazing. We once drove from Girona to a place called Begur and spent a week there . There were lots of interesting places to visit . The Costa Brava is really lovely away from the traditional British resorts . ( in case you would consider other places)

maddiemookins16mum · 11/06/2022 10:57

We’re in our late 50s and going in September to Porto Colom. Hiring a car when there too. Staying at the Porto Colom Suites which are all new and refurbished. Cannot wait.

Topseyt123 · 11/06/2022 11:09

Puerto Pollensa might suit well. Or even Pollensa town, which is 3 or 4 miles inland on a hill.

Alcudia is nice too, though a little more developed. We like it though and my PILs used to own an apartment there.

Cycling is good around both. I don't cycle (hate it) but DH does and loved it.

Also look around Arta and Porto Cristo (Caves of Drach are near there.

I think if you are talking hill walking the other best places to consider would be around the west side of the island. Lluc, Valldemossa (unsure of spelling there), Puerto Andratx and Soller.

BadAtMaths2 · 11/06/2022 14:05

Thank you. Looked at porto pollensa so it’s good to get some personal recommendations.
