I attend yoga each friday evening....finish at 8.30pm so time to get to local waitrose and arrive at 8.45pm....it closes at 9pm....items now only reduced by 10p or 20p....used to be excellent...ready meals for 45p, bread for 20p etc.......is it just my local branch or all over.....??

Ours are still very good once they have gone to second reduction - but I have noticed that the first reductions are quite low.

Are those items with today's date on or the next day?
When I worked in a shop, we would take the last of "todays date" away to be wasted before the end of the night. But if it was quiet, we would also do the first round of markdowns on tomorrow's reductions to save them time the next morning.

I find Co-op best for reductions. They take everything to about 75%off at 5.30ish at both my local ones. I get things like fresh fish, fresh meat, fruit and veg, ham, packet sandwiches, ready meals etc. Really cheap.

The items were dated the 10th so today....about 5 trolleys of food with only a few pence knocked off...stayed until closing at 9pm...no further reductions....only the mountain of soudough bread at 20p a loaf, was £3.60.

If its a one off, maybe they were short staffed and didn't have time to do it. If there's anything I particularly want I will usually take it to the till and say "this has todays date. Will it be reduced any further?" They will often reduce it for you.

I got some bargains last night eg lovely cherries reduced to 75p and big tub raspberries from 3.50 to 1.50.

No. been like this for past few months...plenty of staff around with the stickers....the man who blocks off the reduced trolleys with his shopping trolley also commented about the poor reductions now....

Our local Waitrose has always been terrible for yellow stickers. 10 or 20p off something that's going to go off the next day, next to the same item at full price with 7 days shelf life. I don't know who buys it. There are no bargains to be had.

Mine has always been crap for reductions, but then I don’t necessarily time it to whenever they’re doing them so maybe they’re better when I’m not there? Usually just a few pence off, often cheaper to buy items with longer dates on “buy two for £xx” than to buy one at nearly full price that’s out of date.

toastofthetown · 13/06/2022 17:47

Mine has always been crap. £4.50 £4.16 type markdowns.
