Worried I ate microwave curry after use by date…

Disclaimer that I do have health anxiety!

Ive been working late this week so got a couple of ready meals. I had a microwave chicken tikka tonight and forgot to check the date. Went to put the package away and saw it was use by yesterday (not best before).

Anyone done this and been fine? My DM thinks it’s absolutely fine but I’m worried now, especially with it being chicken and rice.

I get that you have health anxiety, but what do you realistically think will happen to you?
Because whatever it is, I will bet my entire mortgage it wont.
You'll be fine.

DramaAlpaca · 10/06/2022 22:47

It will have been perfectly safe to eat, and you will be fine.

SpaceJamtart · 10/06/2022 22:48

You will be fine honestly, I would worry if it was a month out of date not like a day

Nothing bad happens when midnight strikes. It is a matter of hours out of date. You will be fine.

if you cooked it properly I’m fairly sure nothing will happen. There’s a safety tolerance on these things, plus they have salt/preservatives etc.

ooooooooooops · 10/06/2022 22:53

Thanks everyone! I was/am worried about food poisoning so thank you for the reassurance 😊

I eat out of date food all the time, unless it looks or smells obviously dodgy.

(Checks pulse).

I’m still alive, it would appear. 😉

NiqueNique · 10/06/2022 23:06

As pp have said, it will be absolutely fine. Food doesn’t come with a countdown clock and it doesn’t click over at midnight and suddenly spoil/become toxic. It might blow your mind, but I’m not (that) old and I remember when food didn’t come with a use by or best by date at all...

Relax! 🌷

GlazedDoughnuts · 10/06/2022 23:08

I wouldn't worry one bit 🙂

MissDollyMix · 10/06/2022 23:09

You’ll be fine! I do this all the time.

LeafHunter · 10/06/2022 23:09

It’s fine. Talk to the person supporting you with your anxiety for more strategies to manage when situations like this come up so you need less reassurance (because you’re more able to reassurance yourself)

You'll be fine.

People have been known to turn into chickens after incidents like this, you know?

It happened to me - although I was a huge cock - but it's only temporary and goes away after a day or two. Like you, I appreciate the OP has health anxiety but turning into a chicken is no laughing matter and you ought to be ashamed of yourself @BreakerOfBras

OP, I think you'll be fine but if you start to feel incredibly unwell then you should seek out medical advice, camp in the bathroom/toilet or head for the hen house. Be careful though, the foxes are pretty active at this hour and it'd be a shame for it to end that way over a tikka. Try a Jalfrezi next time.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 11/06/2022 00:00

I eat many things past their date - unless something smells, looks or tastes "off", I will eat it. So far it's been fine.

GlamorousHeifer · 11/06/2022 06:23

Food isn't like Cinderella.....it does all turn to shit at the strike of midnight!
There isn't an army of bacteria waiting to march into battle at midnight on the use by date.
I actually blame TV advertising for the hysteria around Food and germs etc, all those ads that show cartoon versions of bacteria lurking to 'get you', they have done a real number on some people!

GlamorousHeifer · 11/06/2022 06:23

Doesn't 🤦‍♀️

Kapalika · 11/06/2022 08:02

I very often use food after the sell by and best by date.
if food poisoning was to occur, you would know within half an hour!😊

deepcyan · 11/06/2022 09:04

Would be more worried that it was horse not chicken.
